Yale: Campus tour and interview?

The Yale website does not mention whether or not we need to call ahead for a campus tour. It simply says that they begin at Saturday 1:30 pm at the Visitor Center. Do I just show up around 1:20 and say I’m there for the tour?

Also, should I schedule an on-campus interview? If I don’t do this, will I be able to schedule another interview later in the year when they recieve my application?

You don't need to sign up for the tour. Just show up. You can sign in at the admissions office before or after the tour if you like - they shouid have a sheet out for comments from visitors where you can say a few words. Positive, of course..:)

You can schedule an interview this summer if you have the time. They will give them in the fall as well - so do what is convenient for you. The on-campus interviews are given by recent grads or grad students - they are pretty low key, and I'd go ahead and do it if you're there anyway and know you're planning to apply. They also have a student admissions session for students only (no parents allowed-haha) that they give in the fall. They may do this in the summer as well. You can ask. I believe you can set up your interview online.

The tours and information sessions are large but very well run. You don't need a reservation. My son benefited from his on campus interview. His interviewer was a current student who provided a lot of insight into life at Yale and continued to communicate with him throughout the application process. Do make an appointment for the interview and try to schedule it after the tour and info session so that you can be more knowledgeable.

While we were sitting in the reception area the director of admissions came through and talked to several parents/kids. He was charming and seemed sincerely interested to see who was out there. (He's just gone to Stanford, by the way). In the end my son didn't apply to Yale but the whole visit experience was one of his most positive.

Get there early. Each time we have been there, there were people sitting on the floor and out in the hall to hear the session. They usually split the tours if they have enough tour guides. It may not be as crowded in summer as it was in April. Look on the website, Yale may not offer interviews without an application on file. Some schools had that restriction and I can't remember which ones.
