I visited Yale in the spring and I am 100% sure that it is the perfect school for me. I'm going to give a brief profile of myself because I typed out the full profile and then it was deleted so if I need to add anything I'll just comment. I'll be applying single choice early action.

ACT: 35 composite 10 writing
Math 33 English 34 Reading 35 Science 36

I take the most rigorous schedule offered at my public high school. By the time I graduate I will have taken 9 APs and 3 IBs. I haven't received any scores yet. I maintain a 97.5% average and intend on keeping it in the future.

I play oboe, flute, piano, and English horn in my schools elite band and I'm involved in my schools mixed choir and 2 after school honor choirs. (One of our honor choirs is performing with Foreigner in a few weeks and the other is going on your in the winter) I went to ACDA All Eastern Honor Choir in the spring and I'll be going to NYS conference all state in the fall. I also sing in various choirs in my community including praise groups and ensembles that accompany the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. I have gotten lead and major supporting roles in my school's drama and musical productions. I won best supporting actress this year for the drama. I also am on the outdoor track team.

I am the president of our national honor society, secretary of drama officers, and elected student officer of the parents Productions crew as well as an elected representative for the class of 2015.

I work at the local ice cream parlor in the summer and babysit frequently throughout the year.

I have hundreds of hours of community service though my church. I write and direct a show each summer on a state grant about "teen issues" as an attempt to educate parents and adults in the community about the problems students face at school. The last play was so popular that my school's drama department performed it as a second drama production. I also assistant direct a musical every summer through my school' summer programs.

I will be going on a trip through people to people to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland in less than 2 weeks (I can't wait) for 2 and a half weeks as a student ambassador. I'll receive high school credit and an incredible experience.

I'll have excellent recommendations and I think that I'll write a good essay for the common app too.

I want to thank you in advance before your help. I would love to know what my chances are of being accepted to Yale as well as any advice available to improve my chances. I love that school and I can only hope that I'll get in!

As you probably know, there will be many candidates with stats and achievements similar to yours who will be denied admission and no, bad luck will not be the reason. You feel that Yale is the “perfect” for you. Why so? Being able to convince Yale that you are what they need, means you really have to convey why Yale is the best “fit”. It also helps to have your teacher LOR writer corroborate this so make sure you discuss this with the teacher.

I agree with @keesh17 except the bad luck part. You seem like an exceptional candidate. If you do not get in, it will just be dumb luck and the fact that Yale had probably 100 other candidates exactly like you and only about 50 spots available.

@dkdtxs I mean, considering the fact that OP was giving us a profile of her/himself, I think using “I” was reasonable, hahaha.
@GreenEggsAndSam Honestly, you’re as qualified as you can be. At this point, it’s luck. Apply SCEA. Good luck!

how did u manage to get a 36 in science for ur act??? can u plz plz plz help me on that. but yeah ur a great candidate with amazing chances of getting in. also if u ever need help on editing ur essay i can do that coz i’m quite good with those

@germanyrocks Just wondering but why are you going around offering to edit every single person’s essay that’s trying to get into a top school? This guy doesn’t even ask for you to help w/ his essays but you still try to get your hands onto a copy of his Yale essay. You literally have no qualifications to edit other people’s essays, unless those people applying to Stanford and Princeton foolishly gave you a copy of theirs for you to steal.

While the rest of your profile is extremely strong, going abroad via People to People as a “student ambassador” is in no way an achievement, or an accomplishment, as it is not a competitive program and is based on ability to pay. Many students from my school partake in People to People trips simply because they can afford the $5,000+ price tag.

I agree that you have excellent qualifications, and you will get into multiple selective colleges, as long as you apply to enough of them. Yale may be one of them, but it may not be. Applying SCEA is fine, but don’t have a single perfect dream school. And I would agree with Ambitious19 to some extent. Put People to People on your application, but I wouldn’t suggest writing your essay about it.
