Yale Class of 2016 RD Discussion Thread

Haven’t accepted that fact yet… :
And they haven’t accepted me either…
so I don’t really know what I’m waiting for

Basically, I’ll be in for some weak nerves come the 29th.

@newmercy,
You can’t really blame us. With a 60%+ deferral rate, it’s hard to take a deferral seriously or as something more than a “delayed rejection”…

It kind of is a rejection. Being deferred just puts you in a pool with only the other deferred applicants and you compete amongst yourselves for a limited number of spots. It usually has the same acceptance rate, it there are just less people in the pool.

@perry772,
Where are you getting your information from?
The things I’ve read - those from Yale and from legitimate sources - say that deferred applicants are considered alongside the RD applicants, leading to a possibility of them standing out amongst a less stellar pool.

Classicgirll is right, deferred SCEA applicants are reconsidered in the RD round alongside the RD applicants. There is no “limited number of spots” that can be filled by SCEA applicants.

Source: Yale Admissions Officer at Info Session

My thoughts are same as classicgirll. I don’t think they would put you in a group of only deferred applicants because if so, it would be SCEA all over again.

I keep trying to come up with ways that my probability of admission is higher. But I always end up giving up sadly…

I am awaiting my rejection peacefully. :smiley:
Applied early, was deferred, truly loving Yale. I still do.
But the deferral really had a “detoxicating” effect on me, so I managed to look with fresh eyes on some other schools and now I like these just as much. :)

With that said, however, I can feel the suspense coming in with the rolling days. CC is my second home…wait, actually maybe my first one. :smiley:
Oh god…I just hope next Thursday comes faster but as we get closer and close time seems to slow down, and slow down, and slow down…

I have a favor to ask of the Y prospies.

I am going to open all of the RD Results threads on the Ivy and Duke forums the day of decisions. I’m sure many of you are applying to some of these, so you are likely more aware of decision dates than I am. I see that Y will release on March 29, are the rest of the Ivies the same? How about Duke?

Thanks and good luck to all!

^ I believe all the ivies have the same date (it’s in the ivy contract). But the 29th has been explicitly stated on the Harvard, Cornell, and Yale website and/or e-mail. I’m pretty sure the rest of the ivies are the same!

It has been stated explicitly on the websites of Brown, Penn and Princeton, too…

I haven’t checked Columbia and Dartmouth, but am pretty sure that the case is the same.

All Ivy’s are obliged to release decisions on the same day - the fact that 6 of 8 have already announced 5pm, Thursday, March 29, 2012, as the time means that so it shall be. Assume comfortably that it is valid for all. :)

Duke…I think it is the same date, although some speculation remains whether it will be actually on the 29th or the 30th.

Thanks, that’s what I thought but wanted to confirm. I’d hear about it if I didn’t open them in time!

im scared theres going to be problems with the email…omg im totally paranoid at this point, i just want to know.

Yale doesn’t send emails. Their portal does crash for a while, though

Sent from my SPH-D710 using CC

being on CC actually helps a lot… i mean i feel like were all on the same boat

Yes, all the Ivies are the same (the 29th after 5pm); all we know for sure about Duke thus far is that it will be “by April 1.”

We should get an email from Duke within the next few days telling us when the decisions will actually be released.

Oh god. I’m so anxious. My interviewer was ridiculously intimidating. Guess I’ll hope for the best.

Mine was too! But he lightened up after I told him my scores. I guess he didn’t think I could be a competitive applicant and had a very… different view on admissions haha.

My interviewer was great! i feel like we really connected

Loved my interview! Even though neither of us had similar interests, he was really interested to hear about my extracurriculars, comm. service, etc… Isn’t asking for scores frowned upon though? The only academic thing my interviewer asked about was my senior year class schedule.
