Yale Class of 2017 RD Discussion thread

<p>Our application was right up on the deadline…so that could be a factor.</p>

<p>I got contacted by a Yale alum in mid-Jan. I’m in the SF bay area. I still haven’t gotten a request from Columbia and am pretty sure none is forthcoming… it’s the only school that hasn’t contacted me, so I’m just gonna roll with it.
Edit: forgot to mention that I submitted all my apps just a few days before the deadline.</p>

<p>Bottom line: don’t stress over the interview. The interview report really doesn’t count for much in the process, and they certainly won’t penalize you for not getting an interview!</p>

<p>Thank you, guys! Still no interview from Yale, but got interview from UChicago, Penn, and USC :stuck_out_tongue: Still anxiously waiting…</p>

<p>For SCEA (at Yale), I wasn’t contacted by my interviewer until a few days before the final interview report deadline (and we ended up having it that day.) So there still is time.</p>

<p>Just curious…any other legacies applying?</p>

<p>Yep I’m a legacy to University of Minnesota and St. Olaf’s College. Don’t think it’ll help at Yale though. :(</p>

<p>Another Yale legacy here. Eh, it might mean my app gets a second look, but I royally screwed up most of the supplement, so I’m not counting on much.</p>

<p>When is the final interview report deadline?</p>

<p>I think I read somewhere that Feb. 15 was the soft deadline for interviewers.</p>

<p>Alright, I thought that I would share my Yale interview experience since others have provided useful info.
We decided on meeting at a Starbucks after playing a game of telephone tag for a couple of days. She’s a neuroscientist at a research institute and I am just a lowly high school student who aspires to achieve as much as she has.
She was extremely sweet and very open about ALL the components of her Yale experience (partying included). She was super impressed by my achievements in languages and though she was a recruited athlete with near-perfect grades, she was very humble about what she had done leading up to her acceptances (Harvard and Yale)
She kept saying that I had really good questions. Some of the answers that stuck with me were that she “wouldn’t change the collegiate experience but would take classes now that she was afraid to back then (because of workload/difficulty of obtaining high grades)” and one funny one about her research experience and how she didn’t understand the significance of it at the time (she was petting mice all day :P)
I brought a few pieces of artwork to show her the result of my long-term investment in an activity that means a lot to me.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself and this interview reinforced the idea that Yalies are laid back and very normal people who don’t like to show off their intelligence, but who still embrace it to the fullest extent to achieve as much as possible (after all, this alum is only 32 and she is already head of a research lab and lectures students at UofT)</p>
