Just applied So nervous but oh well, I’d rather try and fail than never try and not know if I could’ve gotten in…

I totallyknow how you feel andreaval

Hey guys! I’m in the RD pool too and I sent in my application a few weeks ago.

I agree too, andreaval. I don’t want to think “what if?”

Hey guys, quick question for any of my fellow deferees out there. Are y’all sending any additional information or essays? If so, are you just submitting it directly to the admissions office? I am tempted to send an extra essay and maybe some other pieces of information. I’d probably mail them sometime during January, although I’m not quite sure if there is any specific procedure for this kind of thing.

^ gibby has suggested to me to send a letter to the admissions office (as instructed by the FAQs on the deferred people’s status page) and send a cc letter to the Dean and your regional officer.

I’m sending additional info and an essay, yes.

Don’t send an additional essay if you’re a deferee. That’s asking /presuming quite a bit. Why shouldn’t Yale say: you got your two chances. Why do you get a third when all the RD ones only get two statements?

Don’t do it.

Yale did explicitly state that we were allowed to submit an extra essay/rec if we felt it could add another dimension to our application. Should we simply disregard this suggestion?

I’m simply curious/confused about all of this.

Oh really? I had not heard that. That’s news to me. If Yale says it then it must be so. My bad

T26E4, this is a direct quote from them:

"What should I do next?

As far as your application to Yale is concerned, it is not necessary to do anything right away. Between now and late January, our office will be dealing with a very large volume of Regular Decision mail. Members of the admissions staff will be reading applications and meeting in committee sessions until late March, and thus will be unavailable to meet with candidates. Should you wish to communicate with the officer in charge of your school, it is best to do so in writing.

Over the coming weeks you should think about whether there is any need to add to your admissions file. If you have won a significant award or distinction that you feel will strengthen your candidacy, by all means send us a notice about it. Additional writing samples and letters of recommendation are not needed unless they give us important new information. You should certainly make sure that we receive official transcripts of grades earned since the time you filed your Early Action application.

Any new material should either be faxed to X or mailed to Y. Please do not email material to the admissions staff.

Of course, the other important thing you should do is to make sure that you have submitted applications to other colleges before their application deadlines."

So, I’m guessing we are allowed to send an additional essay if we feel it would add significantly? I’m still a bit confused, haha.

I did. but mainly because my regional officer has changed and the essay I sent is a million times better than my original app essay :)

I sent a fax with an additional essay that was very very personal, a statement that Yale is still head over heels my number one, and listed a few minor accomplishments of mine that have taken place since November 1st.

I applied. I’m not really hopeful though. I did not send in any additional recs/essays and my SAT scores are good. Everything else, activities, required recs, transcript, G.P.A. are good. But idk. It is a long shot.

I know how you feel caribgurl but let’s just hope for the best. We’ll end up where we’re supposed to :)

ealdi94, yeah… I’ll have to get on that eventually, haha. I’ve been too busy applying to other colleges and I’m just pretty lazy in general during the break.

I sent in my application this morning. I’m just bummed that I have to wait a whole 4 months before I can find out!

CantConcentrate I hear ya…I finished all my other apps about a week ago but now I’m starting with scholarship applications. I’ve poured a lot of effort into a few of the big ones.

I emailed my regional admissions officer and asked if she remembered anything about my application and could tell me some of the reasons why i was deferred. idk if it’s a bit too forward or something but i thought i could give it a try. i haven’t sent anything else in to them yet because i know that yale is really adamant about not sending in too much so i didn’t want to annoy them haha

And do y’all think that I should send in my SAT scores? originally I applied SCEA and I only submitted my ACT (34 composite). would sending in my SATs hurt me? some of them are good but some not so much:
SAT I
670 CR 740 M 700 W
700 CR 790 M 730 W

SAT II
Math 1 730
Math 2 800
Chem 730, 670
US History 750

Hey guys! I just submitted my app yesterday, I got rejected from Cornell ED, my scores are kinda low, so I really only have a .00000000001% chance! lol. but do you think they actually look at the whole application, or maybe just at your scores initially, then if they are too low not look at the rest of your application? Even though they say it’s holistic?

Well, if your scores are horrid (<23 or 1700) they might, but otherwise, they’ll read the rest of your app, I’m sure.
