See, there isn’t a reason not to apply SCEA if Yale is your #1 choice. :o

Guys, I need an advice from you. If you read my post before, you’d know I’m an international student, so I’m really not used with these procedures and what would be better now.

I want to apply SCEA because I think I could get accepted “more easily”, but the fact is I decided to study in the US just few months ago (I’ve always wanted to, but my parents weren’t sure that they could afford it etc) so I haven’t taken my SATs yet. I will take SAT I in October and, if the score is good enough, I will have to take the SAT II in Spanish and literature which weren’t in my plan at all 'cause I wanted to take Italian and Latin where I can easily get an 800 but both are in December only . Then, since Spanish and Literature are in November, I will have to apply without knowing my scores. I don’t know what to do 'cause I think that for the scores I can predict them from the preparation books, but what if something happens and I will do badly on them? Maybe I should wait and take all the four of them to increase my possibilities? I don’t know whether I lose a chance if I don’t apply SCEA :(

@krisskross, where did you get the EA admission rates? I’ve been looking everywhere for them!

@philovitist, I actually think working at McDonalds is great for your app! Granted, I’m doing research this summer, but last summer I worked at Mcdonalds, and it was such a valuable experience. It really shows how willing you are to get your hands dirty. A lot of teens I know complain about not having a job but scoff when I suggest they apply to McD’s.

I sent you a PM. ;)

After a lot of consideration, Yale will probably be my SCEA choice!

The thing is, I’m not sure I really fit into the liberal, social worker mold that lots of Yalies seem to be. I wrote my personal statement on my first meeting with my family in China, which isn’t very creative, special, quirky, or artistic…I’d say the most important things I’ve done are leadership in sports and working on science/computer stuff.

I visited Yale this summer and thought it was amazing!! But my problem is that I feel like I’m basing my judgment on a first impression…that’s mostly visual. I’ve tried spending time on the website, I can’t find a REASON I like Yale. Its just that I do…maybe its just me. But what about you guys? (I hope its not just me lol)

Im also probably applying SCEA to Yale this fall! I haven’t even started on my common app or Yale supplement yet… I took two college courses this summer and have a theater production coming up soon so I’ll have to squeeze it in somehow. Best of luck to everyone applying though!

i would honestly almost advise you not to try to get yourself to like Yale more, as most of us need convincing that yale sucks so we can move on, lol.

if you really want to do that to yourself… they sent out a blue book thing in the mail that i read through all of… goes through everything about yale and just makes it seem like the absolute best place on earth. if you can find that, definitely look at it.

Godric,

I got the blue book in the mail this spring and its absolutely brainwashing! I swear when I visited the campus didn’t look half as nice compared to the blue book and the “that’s why I chose Yale” video. But still, after reading it, I started considering Yale for SCEA.

i’ve been up at yale all summer doing research, and know the campus very well… i can assure you that it’s quite nice :3 haha

Haha yeah i visited on a pretty gloomy, rainy day during spring break. But even then the campus managed to look nice

I am pretty sure I will be applying to Yale soon. I don’t think I’ll do SCEA because I may apply EA to a couple other schools and wouldn’t want to have to wait for the RD answers. I have started the common app and essays but am not totally in the school mode, so I am pretty sure I will have to redo them a few times.

I’m from the Chicago area, public school (doesn’t rank). I have a 4.3 and a 35 ACT. Most ECs are academic stuff/teams. I fence outside school too. I don’t have any research (yet!) but am planning on engineering, probably chemical. I figure it’s kind of a pop shot getting in, and though I love Yale, I think I’ll apply RD.

Thoughts?

what majors is everyone thinking about?

ecology & evolutionary biology

molecular biophysics and biochemistry

neuroscience or maybe biomed engineering
also doing a minor/second major in east asian studies (chinese and korean)

harvard? eww post somewhere else… lol jk :P

Haha I really wanted to go to Harvard like 3 years ago, but for the past year or so after doing some research, I’m leaning towards Yale I still don’t really understand the hate between the schools though…i guess it’s just a tradition.
