Yale Class of 2017 SCEA Discussion thread

@deliciousminh I feel you, I don’t even want to complete my canadian supplements, and to think of it, I don’t really even want to go anywhere but yale, right now yale is what I’m hoping for

I’m holding off on my essays. I mean, including Yale, I’ve already applied to four schools, so…

starting tomorrow…4 days

@deliciousminh i’m expecting to get rejected just because i think it’s best to expect the worst, but hope for the best. i hope i get in and i think i have a good chance, but i’m not going to depend on it. i already submitted my Princeton, Harvard, and Columbia apps too. But I mean, Yale isn’t my first choice so I’ve focused more on apps for other schools

@deliciousminh I’m in the same boat as you! I feel like I’ve poured so much heart and soul into my Yale application and I’m being so hopeful that I can’t find the motivation to work on my other supplements.

I might have an MIT interview at 4:30pm Friday, which could be dangerous because I know I will be thinking about my Yale decision during my interview!

Also, I love reading all of these posts, I feel like you guys are all people whom I’ve known for so long and that we’re all going to Yale next fall (I need to stop daydreaming about what I will do if I get accepted/deferred/rejected).

To respond to the question earlier about what moment in history I’d witness, here’s what I wrote:
I’d witness humans discovering the ability to control fire, a milestone that no other species has reached. It represents the dawn of intelligence.
I thought that would be really cool!

(Am I the only one who has a countdown gadget on my PC desktop that has the number of days, hours, minutes, and seconds until Friday 5pm? lol)

@alocik oouf sounds tough, I was sweating over my yale app during my MIT interview as well! The interviewer (MIT) asked me which school I thought I could see myself most in other than MIT and I’m pretty sure I raved about yale for a minute or two… but not as much as I would of like to (;

Just to pitch in my two cents regarding the teacher rec debate - I’m sure the adcoms know what they’re doing and we have nothing to worry about. I’d hedge that they recognize the difference between swanky prep schools with small class sizes and lots of individual attention and huge public schools with stressed AP teachers. Teacher recs, just like applicants, are most likely viewed in context.

@alocik We’re so much alike! I have a countdown on my desktop too and I check this thread everyday. Somehow I feel at ease that all of us are going through the same anxiety and I love seeing everyone’s strategies to cope with it. Let’s just hope for the best!

I am currently staring at common app. Hopefully I’ll get the motivation to write…

I can’t tell you guys how nice it is to know that everyone else is going through the same anxiety that I am… I pretty much check my Application Status site daily, just to see if there’s anything that has changed/is an indicator of my decision. I even removed all of my Yale-related paraphernalia from my life (my iPhone app, my phone/computer background, my Facebook banner, etc.). When I was at my Princeton interview on Wednesday, I had to hide my Yale lanyard and call Yale “another school” that I was “nervous to hear back from on Friday.”

I’m pretty much preparing myself for deferral, as my brother and two girls who graduated from my high school were deferred; but my gut feeling is telling me that I (hopefully) won’t be rejected this round (although I’d almost rather be so I could get a definite answer and have time to get over it). I think it’s better to be pessimistic about things like this because: if you’re right, at least you can say that you saw it coming; but if you’re wrong, you can be delightfully surprised.

That’s actually a very clever way to present Yale as a second choice to P in your interview, coltaylo94. And I totally agree with you.

Guys, almost only 5 days left.

And to everyone needing to know last minute: if you need to check on the status of supplementary materials, just call the admissions office and they will tell you. I had to do that and a lady at the office told me that a supplementary letter from X person had arrived and was in their database.

I’ve (reluctantly) submitted 6 other apps other than Yale so far. The facebook status’s are starting, from the Columbia/Dartmouth/Bucknell people from my local schools. Makes it seem so much more real and closer. I’m also grateful for all of you, and hopefully we can all share strategies for studying and partying rather than anticipation management next fall :)

Coltaylo94 I do the exact same thing ; I m only letting myself check the status once a day tho so on the day of I dont stare at the screen all day

Yeah, applicants from my school are also traditionally deferred…i ve done most of my regulars but havent submitted…where are you all applying?

Sent from my SGH-T959P using CC

canadian2013, what part of Canada are you in?

@canadian2013 I’m doing Yale (obviously) and University of Virginia Early Action, then Harvard, Princeton, UChicago, Duke, and University of Richmond.

columbia, harvard, princeton, dartmouth, MIT and a couple canadian universities

So randomly back to music many pages before lol. I’m not much of a modern or pop music person (I’m learning! My friends are teaching me songs). I just grew up with my dad only ever allowing for a Christian radio station to play…which has only about 10 songs they play over and over and constant fundraisers. I literally only learned to work a car radio a few months ago, that’s how out of this modern technically world I am despite being heavily involved in choir and orchestra haha.

Anyway, a more calming awesome acceptance song “The Mission” [Ennio Morricone - The Mission Main Theme (Morricone Conducts Morricone) - YouTube](<a href=“Ennio Morricone - The Mission Main Theme (Morricone Conducts Morricone) - YouTube”>Ennio Morricone - The Mission Main Theme (Morricone Conducts Morricone) - YouTube) especially with the entrance of the choir at 5:30. Mm, I love it!- and just thought I’d share it here as we spend exponentially more time as Friday approaches. I do love the little blip in the Simpsons with the nuns stealing Maggie episode and it ends with her basically on a throne and the world comes to peace and this soundtrack plays.

@alocik and @redboldx, I mentioned Yale during my MIT interview too! My interviewer had a reaction of mild disgust. He said that they were snobs! I wanted to convince him otherwise but I figured it would be better just to leave the topic haha

@coltaylo94, if you don’t mind me asking are you from richmond, va?

so i’ve been relatively calm about the whole thing but i am seriously going to go crazy this week with the suspense!

@lucya01995 haha nope! But I’m from Newport News, so only about an hour southeast of Richmond!

I’m applying to Columbia, Chicago, Penn, Stanford, Rice, Vandy, and WashU in addition to Yale. I was already accepted full ride to my safety, Pitt… but as I live near the city I’m hoping I won’t have to go there!

as for music, I think I’ve decided on anything Reel Big Fish or One Direction for acceptance, and any of Regina Spektor’s more angsty music for deferral/rejection.
