I’m in Australia and I don’t no anyone else who even applied to universities in the US haha and the questioning has been going on pretty much since I finished my applications

What if we do get in?

Sorry about all these posts, my laptop decided to go crazy. See, even my PC is stressed out.
I was wondering about the Yale-NUS decisions coming out tomorrow. Is it safe to assume that if you get rejected by NUS you’ve also been rejected by Yale? I know they’re technically separate, but I should think that Yale is much more competitive, so it would make sense that if the less competitive school doesn’t want you, the ‘mother college’ won’t either…Any opinions on that?

Not exactly, my interviewer from NUS said they rejected many people who ended up getting into Yale. They only have like 50 spots for internationals and are looking for people they think fit. I have a friend who checked the box to apply there, and didn’t even get an interview, despite getting into Harvard and MIT already.

Yet, I, who is in every way inferior to this person, got an interview.

I didn’t get an interview. Does that mean an automatic rejection? I think I’ve asked this before on here, but I didn’t really get a definite answer.

You have to have one to be admitted, but without one, you could just get deffered to the next round.

Thanks. Somehow I’m not too bothered about that, because Singapore just doesn’t seem like the kind of place where I’d like to spend a couple of years living, especially given how few (relatively) internationals there are at NUS. Wow, now I must have come off as a real bigot…

Nah. I find the school pretty cool, and I’d love to travel around East Asia, but Singapore itself isn’t the most appealing. The school seems insulated from the Draconian laws and robotic students though.

That’s the thing. I really like the school itself, and I’d LOVE to travel, but the truth is that studying somewhere at uni, can’t be isolated from living in this ‘somewhere’. I have a friend who went to ‘high school’ in Thailand and came back after a year, because the cultural differences (and the climate :P) were too much to handle.

I didn’t apply for the Yale NUS program for several reasons.
One, I loved the international aspect but I was not really drawn to the logistical features of the program like what some of you guys have outlined. Some people I know applied because they were like “Woah, Yale is a prestigious name to have!” and I was like “Yale is not even on your degree!!” but then again NUS is nothing to scoff at either.

Second, its not exactly good for premeds because there would be complications when applying back into US Medical Schools for obvious reasons (also reason why I refrained from applying abroad to IITs or UK schools like Cambridge/Oxford).

Its a unique program, thats for sure. But its just not for me.

Totally agreed on the prestige bit. It’s funny how in the UK undergrads from certain unis other than Oxbridge seem to have more ease finding jobs or being accepted into postgrad programs these days. Also, @matrixsurgeon, when I had my alumni interview, the conversation got pretty relaxed and the guy said that premeds spent their entire time at Yale studying their heads off in the library, while most other people were out and about testing their alcohol tolerance levels :P

Haha. Well, then my job is to disapprove that statement wherever I end up going! I am probably as “Work Hard Play Hard” as they get and Yale (along with the majority of my schools) has enough grade inflation that life doesn’t have to be exactly like it is at UChicago, JHU, or Northwestern for premeds. But then again, ones gotta have their priorities set. Its gonna be an interesting 4 years, whether I end up going to Vanderbilt or another school. ;)

I think I’m going to cry either way when I see my results. And then binge watch The Vampire Diaries. I’m not caught up yet, and that seems like the perfect time to finish.

@astaff95, I applied to Oxford, but then realized, wait! BMAT? What? Haha… I live in the US, but was born in the UK.

It’s annoying, because my SATs are so woeful that I want to deflate my enthusiasm and accept a rejection already, but on the other hand I’m always very positive and positivity has worked out pretty well so far. This results in me binge watching Suits to block Yale out completely

My test scores are definitely the weakest part of my application as well. But like everyone said, fingers crossed.

My binge watching will most likely be Breaking Bad. :)

Is there an RD pledge thread?

@my88keys Are you Team Damon or Team Stefan?
Please say Damon!

@princessy, Sorry. Nope. Steeeeeeefan.
But, no spoilers please. I’m only on season 4.

@my88keys Aw man! I was a hardcore Stefan supporter in the first season! Haha! Have fun watching! It only gets better!

How crazy would you be if you made it? I’ll be able to run a marathon and i hate running.
