Yale Class of 2018 RD Discussion Thread

It is confirmed with the last of my prospective schools contacting me! 9 decisions coming my way this Thursday within a 2 hour window in the evening. It is #MakeItOrBreakIt time.

@matrixsurgeon Same here! 13 decisions coming my way within a 48 hour window.

Our lives are about to change in a good or bad way, all our work coming to a final point. [-O<

@matrixsurgeo would that school be Emory by any chance? I don’t know why they (they being Duke and Emory) all have to lump themselves onto Ivy Day. Still, only (only haha) 4 decisions for me, far fewer than you guys! Georgetown better not email and say they are releasing that day too or I will lose it, I need to have some ray of hope left after D-Day comes to an end

@SummerAus
You got that right! Duke and Emory compiling on Ivy Day along with the grand barage of Ivy League decisions. But they are releasing it at 7pm and 6pm EDT in that order which will be weird after the 5pm “stampede.”

@matrixsurgeon I’ll have it nicely (if you can call it that) spaced out actually. 5pm Yale, 5:30 Brown, 6pm Emory, 7pm Duke. Except in timezone it will be 8am, 8:30, 9am, 10am

@brokenandhealed

Princeton is my top choice, followed closely by Yale. I like Princeton because of its focus on undergraduates. I don’t intend to go to graduate school, and I also just really admire the seclusive nature of the campus. I’m not a fan of big cities at all.

@matrixsurgeon

I have 6 decisions coming my way Thursday…
I think I’m going to open one decision every day going through the weekend. I would hate to open them all on Thursday just to see 6 rejection letters, whereas I think I could handle it if there was only one/day.

I’m so jealous guys, Berkeley and Yale are the only American schools I applied to, and the only answers I have from my British unis are 3 rejections out of five choices :frowning: The UK officially sucks…

@EtiquetteOfWar
I admire you for being able to spread the decisions over several days! I could never do that because I don’t see myself waiting a day for each decision (especially since I have so many!) and instead I just want everything over with. If I get rejected at all of my schools (except Emory which I think I have a good chance at), then I will be pretty down for a couple of days but then it will go away.

My God, I was away for half a schoolday and then this thread exploded :stuck_out_tongue: But yeah, @EtiquetteOfWar, HOW can you do that? I can barely wait until Thursday, and once I get them I’m going to open them ALL. I don’t care if I’m late to class.

@matrixsurgeon @jackson61

It takes serious self discipline, that’s for sure. I waited a few days after decisions were available for both the colleges I’ve heard from so far, just as a matter of principle (didn’t want to feel that sense of desperation- you all know what I’m talking about.)

I just feel like it’s not the wisest choice to frantically open everything all at once. Perhaps I’m wrong.

The only exception to my plan would be if the first one I open (Wharton) is an acceptance. Then I would open them all, because I have that to fall back on. As it is right now, I got waitlisted at my safety and my match school didn’t offer enough aid so I’m kind of screwed if all I see are a bunch of rejections :/

Well, good luck, @EtiquetteOfWar, and here’s to hoping that Wharton accepts you!

"Yale received a record-high total of 30,922 applications for the class of 2018, cracking the 30,000 mark for the first time.

The number of applications the University receives each year has doubled since 2002 when about 15,000 students applied to be a part of the class of 2006. This year’s application total marks a 4.4 percent increase over last year’s application count of 29,611. Because Yale expects to admit the same total number of students as it did last year — about 2,000 — the acceptance rate this year will likely drop below last year’s 6.72 percent. The University’s acceptance rate for its early action program this year was 15.5 percent — 735 students were accepted out of 4,750 early applicants."

2 Days left, guys.

@XxCountdownxX I KNOW I’m gonna get rejected. I applied just for kicks. Ah well, no harm done, eh?

According to the numbers above we should be expecting around a 4.82% acceptance rate for regular decision.

[-O<

I know, right? Let’s try not to drown in our tears.

@LAMuniv that’s pretty much what I meant xD

@XxCountdownxX Good, glad to see that we’re on the same page here. :D
