Yale Class of 2018 RD Discussion Thread

Well…the website explicitly states that only short listed applicants get an interview but there have been many who have been deferred even though they did not get an interview.

Deferred? So are you talking about those who applied EA? I’m sorry if this seems like an idiotic question, but I’m a Brit and I’m still totally overwhelmed by your application system :P

Also, wouldn’t it make sense for them to notify me about my rejection somehow?

I am an international student too…
The thing is yale-nus is in Singapore and it has 3 rounds of applications instead of the usual 2 in most US colleges. So presently, round 2 is going on and if anyone gets deferred now, they will be reviewed again with round 3 applicants and their decision arrives sometime in June.
You can’t be sure you are rejected! Stay optimistic. 20th March is the day they are going to release the results; pretty close!

10 days before D-Day. Did you know the d is for day?

Conscience13, where are you from if I may ask? And I wasn’t assuming I got rejected, it’s just that someone suggested it before and I was referring to their answer ;)

As for the D-day, it’s 10 days to go and I’m suddenly tempted to withdraw my application because my SATs surely got me rejected right away :P

@dontor I figured it stood for decision. Or maybe depression.

Or maybe disaster/disillusionment? :P

D for drunk as a way to deal with rejections haha?

D stands for Dejection or a very weird reference to the real D-Day in history? Haha. I like “Rejection Week” because it includes the majority of competitive schools and their decision dates.

Be positive guys.

Just need to make it into one B-)

I applied to Princeton SCEA and got deferred…and only now am I realizing that Yale is my first choice…ugh

thestruggle

@satsarecool
Atleast you were deferred SCEA somewhere! I was rejected Stanford REA cause they defer less than they accept, which is pretty much different than the majority of EA’s out there. I am set on Yale as my first choice now as well.

Princeton accepted like 750, deferred 3,000 and rejected around 65…so I don’t feel too special

@satsarecool
They only rejected 65?!?! Stanford accepted 750 and deferred 550 out of 7000 applicants. I had no chance anyways, nor do I have one for Yale. But hey at-least you have a chance for RD Princeton right?

@matrixsurgeon I’m not exactly sure, but it was definitely under 100.
I guess I can hope. I feel like my stats are competitive, I’m just worried about my lack of “x-factor” if you know what I mean…

Ugh… Do you ever get that feeling that you’re so in love with a college you can’t really imagine not going? I mean, realistically, I can imagine being rejected from Yale, because 7% acceptance rate. But, in my heart, I’m attached (UNFORTUNATELY).

This is like Romeo and Juliet, except only Juliet dies and Romeo moves on and lives happily ever after.

@satsarecool
Don’t worry man (not assuming your a guy), I am in the same situation. I definitely have the stats, grades, and scores to be “competitive” but other than that, I doubt that I have the “it” or “x-factor” unless they see something in my file that I don’t consider up there!

(BTW, I disagree with your username haha! Its all about the ACT!)

@my88keys
Thats me and Yale and Me and Duke. But I think that I cast a wide enough net among the top 20 schools that if I can get into one I would be more than happy to go.

Where else did the two of you apply?

@my88keys

You visited? In general you guys ever been there? Straight up, I like the school, not as much as Brown, but I like it. But I pretty much know nothing other than it’s a really elite school that excels in the humanities and has Old school Gothic/Spanish Architecture…all of which is why I like it.

But I can’t fall in love from a website.

I am curious – what is it about a college that can cause a student to get so attached to it? Aren’t most colleges pretty much the same?
