Yale Class of 2019 SCEA Discussion Thread

@Hephaestus‌

remember that interviews are neither necessary nor regarded with a very high priority. if you don’t get one, you still have about the same chance as someone who did.

hope you do end up getting one, though.

@billymayshere‌.

Yeah, they are really proactive! And I am actually from Zimbabwe hey, and there are very few applicants from this side let alone gap year applicants.

All the best for the 16th!

I get to find out about the Yale decisions on my 18th birthday. The joys of life…

@flyingrainbows‌ - If you get in, it would truly be a joy! Hell of a birthday present. :)

So when they say admissions decisions will be available the evening of Dec. 16, is it EST or our own time zone?

@HappyCamper2015‌ okay thank you! I’ll just have to wait and hope it will get there in time. I took the writing as well.

Whoa decisions on a birthday! Could be such an exciting or sorrowful occasion. But then again, you’ll be 18!

@kqguo10 - I’m assuming from the SCEA 2018 thread that all decisions are posted at once at 5PM EST.

After turning in my Yale SCEA application, I’ve lost motivation to write essays and supplements for my other applications. Anyone else having this problem haha?

@premedbound15 Yeah… It’s taken me two weeks to change two essays to suite a new prompt…

Count down… <a href=“Countdown to Dec 16, 2014 in New Haven”>Countdown to Dec 16, 2014 in New Haven;

@premedbound15 Same here!! I’m doing Princeton SCEA, but I completely understand the feeling…I simply CANNOT physically finish the rest of my supplements! After I submitted my application, I just sat on my bed and binge-watched Criminal Minds.

@premedbound15 Yeah, same here. I think I’m just gonna wait to get my Yale decision back before I apply to the other schools. I’ll still have 2 weeks to get everything put together.

this torture needs to end ASAP

Hi everyone! I am from Serbia and i applied for SCEA, got my Eli account, however did not get an interview yet. Does this in any way affect my chances of getting in? Thanks a lot! Good luck to you all!

@TIJANAS‌

No. Interviews are not that important and the best they can do is tip the scale over when an applicant is on the verge of acceptance.

best of luck

HappyCamper 2015 - sorry I missed your post. I was not ignoring you. I actually have a job I do some days instead of playing around on CC. :wink:

Yes, students do go out into New Haven, but generally to the places quite close to campus like the pizza parlors, clothing stores, Starbucks, drug stores and some of the clothing stores. There is not much adventuring around New Haven proper and not much going out into the neighborhoods. That is not to say that the students are afraid or there is something wrong with the neighborhoods, but there is just so much happening on campus that there is not much need to venture far. The exception to this may be a wonderful trip to East Rock, a beautiful place overlooking New Haven that is a great place to take a bike ride to.

If you are accepted, please go to Bulldog Days which will be your opportunity to see the school from the students’ point of view. It is much different than staying in a hotel with your parents. Also, if you want to go to campus some other time while students are there, there are quite a few Yale parents on this board who can see if their offspring can host you or show you around. Just let us know.

Hope this is helpful.

@Tperry1982 when an international hears that"drug stores" :)
Have you born in 1982?

I am sure that I’ll be rejected. BIG mistake on recs! Unlucky forever

Hi again TPerry1982,

Thank you so very, very much for responding! I’m so excited and really hope I’m admitted. I’ve heard a lot about the Bulldog Days. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Yes, my mom and I have been talking quite a bit about the surrounding areas, and have decided that there is good and bad everywhere, no matter what university I attend.

I think she was a little more concerned because although we stayed at a Marriott not far from campus while we were there, when we went to get gas right across the street from the hotel, there where a few guys just sitting around who kind of gave us a little bit of a hard time.

This is so exciting! If I’m admitted I can’t wait to go back and maybe sit in on a class or two and also see the inside of the dorms. The last time I was there I only had an opportunity to see the outside of them. :-)
