Yale Class of 2019 SCEA Discussion Thread

Artgirl1216, have you tried calling Yale? Maybe that’ll clear things up because systems glitch more often than we think they do. But if you’ve paid the fee and submitted everything, and your teacher have submitted their recs, you should be totally fine. Perhaps you should just wait a little. Did you get an email from commonapp confirming your submission?

I sent in my Common App October 23 and I haven’t gotten an email about an Eli account. Can someone explain why?

Kylieq3, Eli accounts generally take about 2-3 weeks to arrive after you submit.

@AggravatedTeddy‌ , it will not be a problem. Your deadline was a hard deadline; your recommender’s was a soft one.

You presumably know that Yale discourages supplementary recs, but decided that this materially added to your application in a way that your regular teacher recs couldn’t. We debated this ourselves last year, and my son decided that a rec from the director of the plasma lab that he interned at illustrated traits that a school teacher would not have seen, but it was not an easy decision. Generally, if a school discourages (their word) something, take it seriously.

Ps. FYI, Yale says:

Don’t be aggravated and good luck

Ambitious19, yeah I think I should wait, I got this e-mail. The weird thing is that if I go to commonapp the submit option still shows and that scares me a little :(

This email confirms the successful payment of the application fee on 10/31/2014 in the amount of $80.00. Your confirmation number is 4390744720141031. Please allow up to two days for this transaction to be posted to your Common App Online account and for your payment status to be updated. If you have questions, please contact us using the ‘help’ link in the online application. If you have not done so, please complete and submit your application by the institutional deadline.

Thanks again for using the Common App Online.

Sincerely,
Common App Support Team

@artgirl1216‌ this email says “please complete and submit…” So it does imply that there may be additional steps. I think I recall that after paying you do go back to the common app and have to hit submit. My memory is fuzzy because I paid, then my daughter took the computer back and I think did some click boxes for various agreements and final submit. If you haven’t, you should try clicking submit on the common app if it will let you.

I agree with VSGPeanut101. Does your email from commonapp have the subject heading “common application-application submission” or “common application- writing supplement submission”? If not, I would immediately press the submit button. On your commonapp dashboard, are there two green checkmarks in the Yale University row?

Thank you!! I was missing a step but I already completed it, I was getting really worried!

Do you think it affects me that I submitted it today? even if I paid on friday?

Call Monday and check. Worst case scenario you get put in the RD pile, which means waiting longer, but they say there is no real bump in admit rate for being early, so it’s not the end of the world.

It says that everything was submitted as EA so hopefully I will not!! But thank you VSGPeanut101 and Ambitious19!!

Submitted on the 30th, well technically the 31st because it was past 12am, and just got my Eli account today. Good luck to everyone! I applied as a political science major but am somewhat considering economics now.

Seems like a lot of people got their Eli account today!

Submitted on the first so I’ll guess I might receive Eli account on the 5th. My counselor submitted their part to the recommendations today, so maybe it might take longer. On the Common App page it showed that Yale had already downloaded the teacher recommendations, which I thought was kind of fast.

I got my Eli account today! I also got an email from my alumni interviewer scheduling my interview for this weekend. Have any of you had your interview or scheduled it yet?

Got my Eli account today as well. :)

Same here. Just to make sure, CommonApp-received means both common app and the Yale supplement right?

Yup!
10char

I also received my Eli account today. No word on an interview, however. I don’t suspect there are many alumni in my region.

where do you see when it was downloaded?

Got my Eli account today~
Good luck to everyone
