Yale Class of 2020 applicants

Ikr, just think…a person comes up to you and announces in front of class that “hey, u got accepted”…lol thats a moment I would never forget. Good luck to all.

Just a question, did anyone NOT submit subject tests?

@Xboxgamergirl I sent mine in… but then I saw what I got and wish I hadn’t

@Shoumei , oh haha, I think you will be fine, especially because they aren’t even required. I haven’t even taken mine yet, so I hope not sending them in wont have a huge impact on my decision. Hopefully mu essays will make an impact.

Is there anyone here who knows of anyone that got accepted to Yale with a 2000ish (30 /31 ACT) score or lower and had no hooks or something along the lines of that?

Also what are your guys’ stats? (GPA, sat/act, major)

Do you guys ever wonder if admissions officers read these threads for fun, and shake their heads at how wrong we are about the entire process? :))

Apparently a recruitment coordinator from Yale is coming to my school in early January. Does that mean anything significant?

@ya2222 I wouldn’t read into it too much, but definitely look forward to it as an opportunity to learn more about the school if you’re accepted or deferred.

@Xboxgamergirl Honestly, your test score doesn’t define you as an applicant, student, or person. Comparing ourselves to one another isn’t going to help much at this point. Just have faith that we will all end up somewhere great! We will all find out in T minus 10 days!!!

@kuriosmind , haha-I agree with you, but it was just a distraction from all the nervousness from my part. Anyways, I’m so excited!! Its so hard to focus in school these days, as I am constantly thinking about the 15th!! Whenever my teacher says “our final’s on the 15th, the first thing that comes out of my mouth is “Yale!””.

@mjstewart1224 , lol, yeah! I constantly feel like there’s an undercover admissions rep on this thread, trying to judge us for our.conversations. But oh well, at least through our conversations, he/she can see how much we love the yale!!

@ya2222 I agree with @16elir; it’s just an opportunity for students to learn more about Yale and for Yale to garner more interest from your school. My high school holds dozens of visits like this every year.

@theleenbean @Xboxgamergirl @kuriosmind @16elir how did you guys spend your summer before senior year? coz I didn’t really do much (just worked at a local ice cream shop and focused on college apps) and I’m now stressing it’ll disadvantage me in the scea application round

@MariaScott Honeslty I do not think that having worked at an Ice Cream shop will disadvantage you! Instead, it shows how you took an opportunity to do something that most students might not. You took advantages of what was around you- which is AWESOME!! I recently read a chart where they said that previous work is just considered, but not anything major (it’s weighted just as the interviews are weighted). But then again, that chart wasn’t on Yale’s website- so it could be wrong/innacurate.

@MariaScott , I didn’t want that post to get too long, so I am answering your question on this post. To give you an insight of my summers, the summer of my freshman year I interned at the University of MN, it was an engineering internship. Summer of my sophomore year, I interned with FOX/MSNBC/CNN. Summer of my junior year (summer before senior year), I interned at a health insurance company. (paper, coding, etc). In terms of job, I never took an official job, but I have interned at a indian dance studio, gave lessons for flute, taught dance to children, and tutored. Of course for money. $-)

The only reason why I went into these things was that A) I love engineering and B) I kinda knew going in that I wasn’t going to be academically stellar, I don’t have a 4.0 gpa nor do I have a 2400 SAT. So I made sure that I had tons and tons of EC and awards, which I have lived up to.

Now again, all this is just one part of your application. Having all this might make me look good, or it might not make a difference at all.

@MariaScott, there is nothing wrong with a job to earn spending money. You would not want to attend a school that thought there was. Yale doesn’t.

I agree with @IxnayBob , you are completely fine with what you did, and trust me it will look good on you application. Good Luck !!

what does SCEA stand for? Like E and A are probably Early action. But what’s S and C??

@MariaScott This summer I did a history competition, then an Israel program, then a family vacation. Summer before junior year I did the history competition and two theatre programs.

I agree with everyone else… I seriously doubt they would have any problem with you working. I think the only people who are at a bad place are the ones who just sat around and watched Netflix all summer, which I honestly doubt anyone here did (sure, I did for a week, but not for three months).

In the end, I don’t think it’s about what you do as much as how you spin it in your application.
