Yale College or Yale University

DS mentor asking when he referrs Yale, should he say he recommends DS to Yale College or Yale University?

Yale University. Officially, the undergraduate part of the university is Yale College, but that can be kinda confusing since the undergraduate students live in “colleges” such as trumbull or branford, so if you ask a yale undergrad, they may say that they go to Yale University and are in Trumbull College.

Either one would be fine. Or he can just say “Yale.”

Well, for starters, since the Common App discourages tailoring by allowing only one recommendation per person, omitting any reference is completely fine. If the recommendation is only going to be used for Yale, I doubt that it matters which term he uses; AO’s aren’t expecting recommenders to be cognizant of all the nuances in terminology. I would suspect that the vast majority would just write “Yale” anyway.

Thanks guys.

I agree with the others, Yale University or just Yale. I referred to it both ways on last year’s application. Good luck.
