Yale Dorms

I was just wondering, how good are the Yale dorms compared to those of other schools? Which of the 12 colleges have been renovated? If you get placed in an unrenovated one, are the living conditions really bad?

Yale has dorms so unbelievably superior to those of most schools it is ridiculous. The same goes for Harvard. Most of the colleges have been renovated. No where are the living conditions too bad, and, even in the worst of dorms, the promise of renovation is always at hand, seeing as the renovation cycle is almost complete.

Yale actually recently announced that Calhoun, Morse, and Stiles Colleges will not be renovated in this cycle. The logic behind this decision was based on the conclusion that these three colleges already had most of the resources that are being added to the other 9 colleges during renovation. For example, Calhoun experienced a limited renovation in 1989 (rumor has it that these upgrades were funded primarily with CC's own money). So basically, Calhoun College is going to get new windows this summer with fancier screens, and that's about it. (Exciting, I know.)

But Calhoun is still the best college, so whatever :). Oh, and the Calhoun dorms are pretty good as they are. And the people are even better, heh.

Well, at Bulldog Days, I stayed in Trumbull, which is just starting its renovation, and the dorm room was still nicer than the ones my sisters had at in-state schools.

Haha, sorry if I came across as a sourpuss :).

Calhoun's rooms are very nice and have a lot of character. My double this past year had its own fireplace, and my roommate and I were tempted to use it after we finished organic chemistry. (Although we probably would have been fined a ton of money.) I also love the fact that each college has its own courtyard(s), which is usually a locus for relaxing and reading on sunny days.

And I love Trumbull College. The dining hall has the best salad bar on campus. "Trumbull College Dining Hall - Swiping My Card, Stealing My Heart..."

i haven't seen all the dorms at yale, but the one i stayed in there was amazing compared to the state schools i've visited, columbia, princeton and upenn (except for the highrises, which are really nice). yale and harvard just have exceptional dorms.
