I am applying to Yale EA. I was wondering, do I have to submit my financial aid application by Nov 1 as well, if I don't care if my financial aid package arrives on Dec 15 or April 1? Like apply Early, but apply for fin aid regular, is this possible?

No, you must submit the financial aid forms by Nov 1st if you plan to apply EA. You will have to estimate your family income if you haven’t filed a 2009 tax return yet, then fill out another report around February should you be accepted or defered EA.

Sorry to jump on this thread, but does anyone know when the CSS Profile Noncustodial parent form is due?

I happened to browse Yale’s FA website today and nearly had a heart attack when I read that a ‘noncustodial parent’ form is required as well. I submitted my CSS profile portion a few weeks ago and had no clue this other one was required (if your parents are not together). The problem is, the Nov. 1 is tomorrow and there is no way I can complete this by then…ughhh Can I just send it in later?

thanks for all the replies! I also found the financial aid website saying that they have no “set in stone” deadlines (in the FAQ for prospective students section).

Wait, so what is the consensus? Because I’m in the same situation. I’ve already applied SCEA and checked the “I will be applying for fin-aid” box, but I don’t care whether I get my fin-aid estimate in December (if accepted) or later? Basically, I was planning on submitting my fin-aid docs and CSS and all that after December, if I was accepted. Can I not do that? If I’m applying for fin-aid and EA do I HAVE to submit it now?

On Profile online (collegeboard.com), it says
Yale University
Early Filing: 03-Nov-2009
Priority Filing: 02-Mar-2010
Does it mean the deadline for CSS is Nov.3 for SCEA?

I had a friend who also applied SCEA to Yale, who also asked the same question. He received the opposite response, stating that the CSS Profile form is due by November 1 with the other application.

I too had the same experience as everyone else, as I had no idea the CSS Profile even existed, or that I would need to fill out financial aid forms this early.

rockermcr and I were discussing this yesterday because the Profile/CSS website wasn’t working and we were getting worried. But the general consensus from sources suggests that while Yale would like to have your financial aid application as early as possible, it’s not essential. As they are need blind, the aid you require won’t be factored into your acceptance. But if a financial aid offer is essential to you personally to know if you would be able to accept the SCEA place then it’s best if you get the app submitted asap.

I am pretty sure you can delay your financial aid stuff.
I sent in the CSS online last week but just found out that the business supplement, tax forms and business tax forms must be sent in. I will probably send them in November 2nd.
If they allow you to submit your SAT after the November test then I think they will give some leeway for the Financial aid application.

I was trying to submit my PROFILE app online, but the site keeps timing out on me. I can’t even get it to go to “Continue Existing Application.” I have the entire form completed, but I can’t seem to submit it. Is anyone else having this problem? I’m a SCEA applicant. Is it okay if I can’t get it submitted today? (This is happening on my computer AND my mom’s.)

Go to the Financial Aid forum on CC. There’s a thread about this. Everyone’s having this problem. It wasn’t working for most of yesterday, but it got better from around 1:30 AM to 10:30 AM EST today, and now it’s crashing again.

What is the deadline for applying for financial aid for prospective students?
There is no deadline for applying for financial aid for prospective students. We recommend that you have your application complete by the suggested submission date. This ensures that Yale will have adequate time to process your application. If you cannot meet the suggested submission date please complete your application a.s.a.p. It is in your best interest to know what your financial aid package will be before May 1 when you need to make your matriculation decision.

As of today, I have not filed the CSS for my D yet. However, I think I would need to file it as soon as I can within these few days. So to answer the OP question, I think you should not wait until Dec. 15 if you are applying EA. However, if you missed the Nov. 1 deadline, I think it should be okay. But I don’t think you should wait any longer based on the above FAQ from Yale’s website.

I talk to Yale Fin Aid office before my son applied. They said I could wait until I had my 2009 tax information and file it like he was applying RD. What they give you is based upon your 2008 taxes and only an estimate. I wanted to submit the CSS profile by Febuary 1 (this is a common deadline) so I could use 2009 tax info and submit to all the college at one time.

splatt11: That’s good to know. I am planning to call Yale financial aid office tomorrow myself to find out exactly what do they need as far as financial aid package and whether or not I can just file FAFSA instead of CSS Profile. It appears that Yale is asking for CSS profile, but imo, it doesn’t hurt to ask.
