Yale and Princeton are my two favorite colleges. However, my stats aren't that great (32 ACT, 3.8UW, 4W, okay ECs), so I need all the boost that I can.

So should I go for Yale EA or Princeton ED? I have heard that Princeton ED's gives you the best boost when compared to other early programs of HYSM. Is this true?

Which one is RELATIVELY easier to get into (I know that they are both super-competitive nonetheless).

I lean towards ED (though I have no data lol :p) at p-ton because schools tend to accept more ed students just because you can't wriggle yourself out easily

Your stats are acceptable for the Ivies, but if you say you have only okay ECs, that might enough to stop you from getting into either Yale or Princeton, since most people with stats like that have good ECs to make up for it.

The admissions rate for Princeton for last year was 32% I believe. For Yale, it was 23%/16% (the lower number is from an argument that Byerly made that I think is quite valid). Princeton defers a lot of ED applicants, but out of those deferred, almost no one gets in RD. Yale rejects a lot of EA applicants, but for those deferred, the admissions rate is similar to the EA admissions rate. (14% EA deferred versus 16% EA versus 6% or so for RD.)

I find it a little hard to believe that you like both schools equally...they are similar, but different too. Don't overanalyze the difference between EA and ED and just go for the one you like better. Plus, if you have any financial worries, you might want to reconsider binding yourself to ED. Princeton is known for generous aid, but there are still people that are unhappy with it.

Doesn't the word "similar" imply an inherent difference already? nitpick

I have nothing to say to that except...
GROWL

okay, here are the highlights of my ECs:

News Editor of school newspaper (supposedly one of the best in the nation)
Founder of Annandale Embassadors (a program that helps immigrants assimilate....teaching them about the American school system, college applications, resgitering to vote, filing for naturalization, taking museum tours etc).
Raised 30G for tsunami
President of Young Democrats
Model U.N.
Won the science fair in school
internship with a lawyer
in three honor societies (not a big deal at all in my school).

Those are good ECs, especially raising money for tsunami. You don't need extraordinary ECs to get in (though they wouldn't hurt) so I think you have a perfectly good chance.

thanx zantedeschia, this is very encouraging to know.

cant u apply to both. Yale EA is non binding right.

You can apply to both if you apply to Yale EA and Princeton ED. Or if you get deferred and then apply regular, but no, you can't apply early to both. Princeton is ED, which means you can't apply elsewhere, and Yale is Single Choice EA, so you still can't apply elsewhere.

If I know an alumni do you think that might help my chances at getting into yale EA? She told me to give her an email if I wanted to apply to yale. How much can alumni help someone get in?

only if she's your mother

she could write a really good rec if she knows you personally and also, she would probably have to be a well respected alumna
