Yale Eli Whitney Student Program - 2017

Any EWSP applicants here?
What other schools have you all applied to? Stats?

Best wishes, everyone!

Hello @SierraDelta
I applied this year. I’m surprised there isn’t more forum activity here. The previous years were pretty active! This is the only school I applied to, but I currently attend Penn State. I found out about the EWSP and had to give it a shot. Your username makes me think you’re a veteran. I’m a Navy vet. I’ve been out just over a year. Good luck!!

Hi everyone, an applicant here!

Hey @torpedoo, sorry about the delayed response. Glad to hear from you! Yes, I’m a Marine Corps veteran. I’ve applied to 10 other schools as a transfer applicant and the wait is killing me. What’s your major? I’m surprised you haven’t applied to other schools or similar programs like Brown’s RUE! Good luck to you also!

Hi @huidouyanyan! Keep the thread going:)

According to last year’s thread, I think we should hear about the interview in a few weeks. I hope we all make it!

Hey Eli Whitney Applicants! Has anyone heard any news about interviews?

Hey @blackivy92, to my knowledge, they’re still reviewing and collecting missing items. They’ll be contacting applicants within the next few weeks to set up interviews that will be conducted at the end of April/beginning of May.

I’m a Computer Science major, possibly Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I didn’t know about any of these programs until earlier this year, so I missed the deadlines for other programs.

Judging by previous years’ message boards, calls for interviews started mid-April and some people were called through the beginning of May as well. I’m glad I have finals coming up to distract me from waiting!

Hey @torpedoo, check your email! I got an email from Yale for an interview. I called to schedule an in-person interview.

Great major! Seems like you’re headed where the money is. It’s always great to see other veterans striving in academia to achieve excellence. Good luck with everything and I hope we see each other at Yale

I received my interview request this morning. Active duty (separating in June) Navy / geophysics major / 3.7 GPA

Do they send interview requests in the same day?

@SierraDelta and @kgallagher congratulations!! I got an email from them too… to make sure all of my materials were in. Hopefully that’s a good sign though.

Hi- just asking does anyone think or know if you haven’t received an interview invitation now, that you will not get one. Also does anyone know if there is any real chance to be accepted into the program if you are not a soldier, or veteran, or have had a long career to show, and if you are younger, and also if you are a foreigner. thanks a lot!

*have not had a long career, just changing a typo. thanks a lot

Hey @tlp123, from everything I’ve read on previous forums and on Yale’s website, invitations go out at different times, so I think/hope more will go out through the month. For the rest of your question, as long as you meet the requirements (5 year gap in education, no bachelor’s degree, etc.) you’re just as eligible as anyone else who applies. None of the factors you listed should include or exclude anyone, because that would be discrimination.

This is their information for international students applying to the program:
https://admissions.yale.edu/eli-whitney-students-program-information-international-students

There isn’t too much information there, but there is some contact info if you have questions.

thanks so much for the link and the information, that’s very nice of you, and helpful. really appreciate the extra background info and advice. It’s great to have more information

Thank you, @torpedoo! Have you submitted your mid-year report? That was the last thing I submitted and I got their email about the interview not long after I submitted it. I hope you hear from them shortly!

Hi @tlp123! Like @torpedoo said, as long as you meet the eligibility requirement, your non-veteran status shouldn’t affect your chance of admission as long as you present a strong application, background, and experience. Good luck to you!

Congrats, @kgallagher! Are you doing a Skype or on-campus interview?

Hi, Thanks for your response, and input. I have had a lot of experience, or a long career. And I haven’t yet had a large number of years of experience in a career or have yet established a background in a particular field or thing that a number of other applicants may have. Would you think that because of this I don’t have any real chance.

*have not had a lot of experience. thanks again

@SierraDelta Yes, I submitted that Thursday morning so hopefully I’ll hear something soon! I was holding out for a couple of math tests to see if a grade would go up haha! Just keeping my fingers crossed. Did you submit your Joint Services Transcript?
