Has anyone been to either of these programs? What'd you think? Any particular courses you'd recommend?

Explo isn't run by Yale so if you're looking for a stronger program academically it's definitely Brown.

Oh, seriously? Does Yale offer any summer programs of its own? I was hoping for one to increase my chance of admissions (and also spend a summer on Yale's campus.)

D did a 3 week session on writing at Brown, taught by a Brown professor. She had a great time and learned a lot. Didn't help her get into Brown, though. :)

These summer programs on these college campuses won't influence your chances of getting into that particular school. When you choose a program, make your decision based on what they have to offer. I did JSA Yale and our group was there at the same time the Yale Explo kids were in session. If you truly want to have an academic-based summer, don't do this program. It's fun, but it seemed to be a summer camp for high school students. I don't know much about that Brown summer program, but I have to say, if you want the most out of your summer, don't do explo.

I went to Explo last summer, and while I admit it won’t help you on college applications, it was a lot of fun. The dorms at Yale were awesome, as were the friends I made. My classes were so much fun, and there was loads of free time to go to restaurants and shopping. If you want to have fun and experience and learn a lot of new things you wouldn’t be able to learn anywhere else, go to Explo.
