The official coach's bio for men's fencing says that many of his fencers who ended up being All-American, etc..., never even touched a blade before coming to Yale. Do you figure this is actually true or is it just one of those "advertisement" kind of things?

If it's true, I might actually contact the coach. I never got around to it 'cuz i never considered myself good enough 4 div 1...

one of my suitemates fences and, from what i hear, is pretty talented. she's not a huge fan of the coaching.

I also have a suitemate who does fencing. He was a Junior Olympian and is supposedly quite good for a freshman. I don't think that the Yale fencing team is terribly hard to get involved with.

I had a math teacher once that told a similar story. He had friends in college (not Yale) that accidentally walked in on fencing practice in the gym when they were looking for intramurals in a different room. They decided to join the fencing team anyway and one of them ended up winning some sort of national championship or something.
