Absolutely, as I stated earlier, and which is regularly discussed in regards to NPCs:

This is neither unique to Y nor is it what I would term ‘shenanigans’.

“generous”, maybe yes. Be all, end all - no.

Another family who has had 2 children at H and another at Y…the H aid was MUCH better. Of HYP, Y is not the most generous.

Just chiming in here to note that for many “Y is the most generous” by far. Yale’s financial aid offer left all others far behind in the dust, including peer schools.

So just noting that everyone’s experience is different.

@FogFog, that makes a lot of sense. One of my parents is self-employed and that seems to be why the aid calculation is different from FAFSA and UChicago’s.

Also, even though I am getting merit aid from UChicago, the expected family contribution is still less than Yale’s by $10,000. I don’t think the scholarship I received plays into EFC calculations. Chicago is also giving me more grant money without considering the scholarship at all.

The second home is not a vacation home. I’m not sure what the difference between a vacation home and a rental home is, but we live very close to our other home and we plan on moving the grandparents in. I tried to explain this to the financial aid counselor but so far it seems like it doesn’t matter much to them. We also owe a lot on the second home.

Will Yale match Harvard’s financial aid offer for international students?

Yale treats international students the same as domestic students. They will reevaluate your financial aid based upon a competitive offer from a peer school, such as Harvard (you will have to fax Yale the FA letter from Harvard). Yale may increase your aid so that it’s within several hundred dollars of Harvard’s, but they may not match it exactly dollar-for-dollar.

Thanks @gibby that’s good to know. What do you think are the chances of them coming close to Harvard’s offer? Is it just possible or likely?

I have no idea, but I think the chances of Yale coming close to Harvard’s aid is a good possibility. You’ll never know unless you ask!
