To experienced Yalies:

What G.P.A do Cum Laudes, Magna Cum Laudes, and Summa Cum Laudes have when they graduate? I just want a perspective on what is a good GPA at Yale. For example, simply having an A- GPA at Yale (3.69) puts you below average GPA for top Medical Schools. So can a Cum Laude have a GPA of 3.20, typically. Yes, I know it depends on the student body for each class, but I just want an estimate. Like do Summa Cum Laudes typically have GPA's of 3.800 or whatnot? How common are 4.00 or close to that?

I think you are being over zealous apfreak, but for what its worth

summa = top 5% = 3.9+
magna = top 15% = 3.8+
cum laude = top30% = 3.67+ (although my year there were a few kids I knew with a 3.6+ who didn't get it, I don't know where this cutoff really is)

There were no 4.0's my year, they are extrememly rare.

You should take chem 118a if you've taken APchem btw, its more interesting and allows you to take inorganic second semester (if that's still the case, I think its chem 250)

don't worry so much about med school, I guarantee that if you chill out, you'll do better and get into a better one.

You're right, I am overzealous...but I wouldn't be a Freshmen or more adequate...the apfreak if I wasn't overzealous. Plus, I just want to gauge the difference in HS GPA and College GPA. Dude, so many people have great GPAs in HS and anything below a 3.8 (Unweighted) is not great. Obviously, at Yale this is not the case, and I now I know that having a 3.5 is not all bad.

Nevertheless, it's still nice to shoot for that 4.0...
