Honestly, I'm afraid to hope but I can't help it. Yale has been my dream for so many years, and I've been wondering if I stand a chance at getting in. If not, could I gain admission into any of the Ivies?

I still have to take my SAT II tests, so I can't give any info about those. :( I'd really appreciate if you answered, and even more if you would give me some advice on how to raise my chances. Thank you!

ALSO- I don’t know if this will make a difference or if I’ll have an opportunity to mention it on college apps, but I also speak a few languages and am very interested in learning more.

You don’t have the ECs for Yale and both your rank and SAT are low for them. Frankly, these days, setting your sights on a school accepting under 8% is not a good idea.

Oh, well, that’s a disappointment, if an expected one. Thank you so much for answering, though! Is it so low that I shouldn’t bother applying? High application fees are sort of a problem for me…

If you’re worried about app fees, I’d recommend you not to apply if you’re one of the following:
International Student
Asian, Indian, or White.
And honestly tho, don’t let this put you down, because it could go either way…
The valedictorian of my year got rejected from Yale, some girl in the top 10% but not as good made it into every IVY, but your ECs are kinda low so…

ECs… Would volunteering at a hospital and joining SGA (Student Government) be significant additions or would they not add much to the overall picture?

I’m trying to be realistic about this, but I’m still reluctant to let go without trying to do something to increase my chance of getting in, haha

Thank you for your response, Iamnotok. I’m Pakistani, so I don’t suppose that would help.

The type of ECs these schools look for are the type few others are doing. Starting something meaningful that grows way beyond the high school or local level.

Mcknight95: Thank you for the advice!
I’m sort of surprised about the class rank. I thought top 5% of your class was good? Would colleges take into account how competitive the high school is?
In case they do: National Blue Ribbon School, class average GPA of 3.6, and I’m not quite sure about other academic stats.

Yeah as others have stated having a few leadership positions automatically makes you look a step above everyone else that doesn’t have leadership positions (which probably is a lot).

I also think that you should worry a lot more on your SAT II’s for now…if you don’t do good on those it’s basically impossible to get in.

Okay, you guys. This is obnoxious but I’m going through my email and just saw volunteering opportunities that I have asked about and signed up for but don’t begin until a few weeks.

-Helping staff a shop, all proceeds go to Hospice of the Chesapeake (non-profit organization helps families care for terminally ill loved one)
-Volunteering at an assisted living nursing home

I didn’t think your position in a club mattered that much. I mean, we all do pretty much an equal amount of work, including organizing activities. The president just fills out some extra paperwork.

-I am currently the accountant for Environmental Club, and have been elected as its president for the next school year.

I know it’s annoying that I’m tacking these on now, but I really did forget/didn’t know they mattered, and it won’t let me edit the original post. Sorry!!
