You might want to ask on this thread as there are some interviewers posting regularly with good information.

No sweat. I was accepted and I didn't get an interview. It probably just means that there weren't too many Yale interviewers in your area.

I think interviews have very little weight in the final admission decision.

no way, interviews are important.

sometimes, they're exactly what the adcoms need to tip the scale in favor of a certain applicant whom they couldn't decide on.

besides, they always release those statistics (MIT keeps springing to my mind) about how at MIT only I think 6% of people who refused an interview were accepted but like 13% of those who had an interview (or who had theirs waived) were accepted. Those numbers aren't exact, but they're in the right ballpark.

Ok, so what if I am not offered an interview? It simply doesn't give me the opportunity to make it a positive, but it is really not my fault that they couldn't interview me.

If you're not offered an interview, it means there weren't enough alumnis in your area, which means that they won't hold it against you.

On the other hand, if you ARE offered an interview, and either choose not to do it or don't respond back etc, it's definitely a negative.

I was never interviewed and neither were any of the other SCEA applicants at my school and 4 of us got in. I've been told over and over again that interviews hold little overall weight. But if you are really on the fence it can tip it, but it's not absolutely crucial that you have an interview.

As an interviewer, we just mark:

0 - No interview conducted and include a brief explanation.

I don't see that its a "definite" negative.

Well, my interview went well. =D Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I remember reading what I’m pretty sure was an interview with a Yale admissions officer, and he said that interviews are most often used for borderline applicants – that applicants who are definitely accepted or rejected don’t need the interview as much, and thus aren’t offered one as often. If only I could remember where I read that!

Just throwing this out there… I actually never got a message from my interviewer (although he apparently left one) and never had an interview. Accepted SCEA.
