Consider Dartmouth, its right in with your other schools. Its a little farther from a city, but its an awesome balance between a LAC and a place like Harvard.

You might check your spelling -- extra curriculars is correct. Also, you need more AP courses & leadership positions. Club presidencies (beside student govt VP) and team captaincies would help. Also, what's your volunteer work and/or community service?

You have to be more than grades & scores to get into the schools you're thinking about. Of the schools you're considering, Vassar seems the most reasonable at this point; much will depend on what you do senior year. Also, are you a URM and do you plan on applying early. You could also look at Emory, Haverford, Michigan, Tufts, Connecticut College, Oberlin, Hamilton, Brandeis, Kenyon, Trinity, Skidmore, Wake Forest and Northwestern.

Your stats are sufficient. What you need is great essays, an outstanding interview, enthusiastic and perceptive recs, and THEN a whole lot of luck. Apply to 1-2 schools where you're an ABSOLUTE shoo-in, and would be happy.

collegeparent - she says she is 4th out of 40. That means the school is probably too small to offer a bunch of AP classes. I would think colleges take that into account.

But yalecitygirl - I think the posts are on target. If Yale is your first choice, that's fine. So apply early, and do a good job on the app. But I didn't see any in your list that seemed to me to qualify as match or good bets. So like the previous posters, I also suggest you now focus on selecting your match and good bet schools so you are comfortable with all the schools you should be applying to.

it's a total crapshoot. You can have a perfect 1600, be valedictorian, volunteer daily at a hospital, have awesome essays and recs and still not get in. You have the same chance as the person i just described, who i know, and he didn't get in. i recommend applying, but having a strong safety that you'd love jsut as much.

You're right, hayden -- she's only at the bottom of her class 10% - not good enough for Yale. She's got to be #1 and that ain't gonna happen. Suggest that she look seriously at the schools I mentioned above since her chances there are much better than her dreams. I hate to tell this to the OP but her dreams ain't gonna happen & she needs to wake up and face the reality of "safety schools."
