Total Institutions

o.O @ Yale and Harvard.

wow, 21 from Berkeley

haha more from Harvard than Yale.

While I'm not sure about this, I think this list simply has to do with 'affiliations', not strictly with bachelor's degrees. For example, somebody who got a master's degree from School X and then went to Yale Law would be counted as being a member of School X. If this is true, then that means that schools that happen to have large graduate programs will tend to be affiliated with more students at YLS than schools that don't have graduate programs at all (like the LAC's).

You also have to factor in the sheer sizes of the various schools. Obviously some schools are bigger than others. Hence you would expect that simply from a numbers standpoint, a bigger school ought to have more students in YLS than a smaller school would.

Then of course there are certain geographic preferences for various students. Lots of people prefer to attend law school near where they live or their families live.

hahaha "University of Colombo"
is anyone else thinking of the tv show?

Drew,
Berkeley's number isn't as impressive as it looks if it's normalized by its huge student population.

sakky,

If I recall correctly, Harvard has a similar list with undergraduate institutions. I wouldn't be surprised if Yale is doing the same here--listing undergraduate institutions. Regardless, most law students have only undergraduate degrees.

More from Northwestern than its peers (WashU, Tufts, Rice, Cornell, Georgetown, JHU, UCLA, UMich). Go Cats! :)

40 from Stanford (#3) despite the distance!

more than UPenn as well

9 versus 2, even though Upenn is BIGGER (2600 vs 1950). Penn also has a larger AS division, which means prob more kids applyin to law school in general.

Drew,
Berkeley's number isn't as impressive as it looks if it's normalized by its huge student population.

I still think the number is impressive. Berkeleys population is similar to michigans and UVAs but berkeley sent more than uva and michigan combined.

How many schools have over 10, I think just 8

Chances are, these people would have gone to YLS or have done something equally impressive regardless of undergrad lol

Anyone know if they have those statistics for the graduate school of arts and sciences or the music school?

14 from Williams?!?! thats pretty crazy given its size

agree with Sakky's comments regarding the importance of adjusting such lists per capita (i.e. megas U's like Cal Berkeley look great until you factor in the fact that its teeming w/20,000+ undergrads vs. schools like Dartmouth or Williams which have a fraction of those numbers ... case and point just looking at U Mich's placement of 6 - you already know its definitely punching below its weight)

I think the ridiculous thing is that Harvard, Yale, and Stanford make up over 200 of the students!

Also... 2 from Penn!? How is this possible?!!?

I don't remember the details of the HLS list - I will have to look it up.

But I do know that Harvard Business School lists ALL affiliations, undergrad and grad. That's why LAC's tend to get underplayed at HBS in terms of affiliation because they basically only get 1 bite at the apple.

Hey, USC is doing quite well here. Considering USC has not very much students studying at LAS, it is more impressive than UCLA.

Of course Cal is a surprise, but pleasant one IMO. Also University of Alabama is doing better than I can believe.

University of Alabama must be twice as good as University of Pennsylvania.

Lol.........

i am very curious why Penn places so bad w. Yale law???

does anyone have a possible answer for this?
