Looks like Yale's starting to call applicants for their likely letters.

Who has gotten one so far, and when did you receive it :D?

Looks like Yale's starting to call applicants for their likely letters.

Who has gotten one so far, and when did you receive it :D?

Me! This evening! So happy!

Didn’t receive one. Are they only calling certain applicants? (such as applicants for certain majors or certain hooked applicants)

Also, is it possible to receive a LL before an interview?

Has anyone who hasn’t submitted a midyear report gotten an LL?

They issue more than 100 for high value STEM majors if past years’ history is repeated.

@twoleftfeet i have not submitted it yet

@coollog

Out of curiosity, did you do some big-time science research or win any national awards? Trying to figure out how they distinguish those ~100
and congrats!!

Sorry for asking so many questions, but has anyone in VA (or MD/DE/WV – pretty much anyone whose admissions officer is Lindsay Acevedo) gotten a call?

Also, congratulations to everyone who got one! You must be amazing people.

@Hadiram Actually, not at all. No big-time research, and the only national-level awards I have received are AP Scholar with Distinction and the National Merit Scholarship (Semifinalist right now).

Every year, the LLs initiate waves of anxiety for many CC users. It’s misplaced. Only about 300 out of 2000 eventual admitees get LLs. THis is nothing to be pining away about. Go live your life. If you happen to get one, swell. If not, so what?

FYI: the issuance of LLs has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with interviews. Any attempt to link the two is fruitless.

Likely as well! Pumped for YES-W :D

@straightchillin maybe we’ll see each other there :D

Congratulations everyone!

@straightchillin i just need this one more post to be able to reply to your pm lol

I got a call first on 1/22 but I was out and officially received the news on 1/23. I had my interview a few days ago and have not submitted my midyear report. No major awards…National AP Scholar, AP w/ Distinction, a few regional science fair awards, etc…

Son got a call last night (around 9 P.M. our time so it must have been 11 P.M in New Haven) telling him about the invite and that the likely letter is on it’s way. The website says Welcome to Yale and he got instructions for booking the flight.
He did have an interview last Saturday. What the interviewer did tell him, I believe, was that she has been asked to interview some kids ASAP.
The person that called last night was likely the regional rep. as she knew son’s info very well and was referring to his essays (“amazing” in her words) a lot.
DS wants to major in Physics and Economics , I am not sure what exactly he put on the Yale application. Great, very well rounded kid, no national level awards (besides AP and NMSF), no research .
Never expected this! Quarter ended last week so I do not think the mid year report has been submitted yet.

Are the likely letters all sent on one day?

This is correct. DS received a Princeton LL a couple of months before his interview.

Can you still be invited to attend YES-W if you were an SCEA admit? I have a strong interest in the sciences, a lot of science orientated ECs/Awards, and indicated Cognitive Science or Physics as my intended major. YES-W seems like a cool opportunity, but does Yale only consider those applying RD?

never hurts to call and ask.
