@joshuabove They answered that on the Yale 2017 Facebook page. They don’t have the resources to accomodate more than the 100 people they invited for YES-W. Also, since SCEA admits find out in December, they have more time to get to know Yale. Therefore, SCEA admits are not invited to attend YES-W.

YES-W crowd is being Wooed to enroll at Yale. If someone applied SCEA and has been accepted, they are considered wooed already! :D

Haha, but the financial aid package they had estimated isn’t wooing me in…Thanks anyways for all the help!

Joshua - If you have issues with FA, it is a good time to negotiate. You have been admitted SCEA which means Yale likes you. It does not hurt to request a reevaluation of the package if you are serious about attending. If you wait too long, there will be a lot more people trying to negotiate too.

Hi, for those who received Likely letter, did you apply STEM major oe something else?

genetics -People who are being invited to YES-W are being invited to Yale Engineering and Science Weekend and are being issued a likely. So it sounds like the STEM interested folks.

Did everyone who received a likely also a receive an interview? Was the interview pre or post likely?

I don’t know T26E4…

There are small qty of anecdotes of New Haven-requested interviews for certain students --yes they exist. But to comment on these statistically insignificant and unusual circumstances would needlessly add another point of worry for the already frantic applicant pools. I would suppose this in the above scenario: At first read, the son was a definite attention grabber – his file went to the “we want him yesterday” pile. The area rep called the local ASC and wondered if an accerated interview could be obtained just to add the cherry on top. If one could be had, then great. It’s probably that the interview confirmed the initial thoughts of the committee. However, if the time frame did not allow for it, or no interviewers were available, the student may still have gotten a LL. Or his app may have been filed for later – hoping for a positive interview report – and likely offered RD admission anyway.

There’s just too much to guess at – thus it serves nothing to try to figure out what happened behind the scenes in this single case – and then try to derive any pattern or protocol for other individuals and their being interviewed or not.

The fact are as follows: kids w/o interviews get LLs. Kids w/interviews get LLs. Some kids get interviews, some don’t. Most kids never get LLs. Most admitted students don’t get LLs.

does anyone know when they stop calling kids about likely letters? I’m reallly hoping to go to YES Weekend, its supposedly a great opportunity

Congratulations! (On this and STS
)

Does this mean LLs are still rolling out?

A kid from my school got his LL last night, so yes, they are still coming out. (We are in NY)

Sorry, to rephrase my question: For those that DID receive interviews, did the interview come BEFORE you received a LL?

I had my interview last week, and the interviewer said that Yale had asked him to interview the Engineering applicants first… I was apparently the first of four interviews he had to conduct.

Thanks, texaspg. I have one more question and hope someone can answer me. I did not see STEM major when I filled my application. Did anyone see it?

STEM = Science Technology Engineering And Mathematics

A few thoughts on the LL, since my son got one last year and is a current Freshman at Yale. @genetics11, if I remember correctly you fill out anticipated major(s) on your application. Admissions can figure out if it fits the STEM categories or not. As others have stated, the interview has nothing to do with whether or not you receive a LL. YES Weekend is a great experience, the parents are welcome and they most certainly have activities planned for them. I would encourage any parents who have the time and means to go, to do it. We got to see firsthand what a rich and well-rounded education and campus environment our son would experience were he to choose Yale. He’s very happy he did, btw.

Thank you for your answer. My daughter applied Biochemistry? Does this major fit STEM or not? It is very confusing.

Yep, biochem would most certainly be considered STEM. (SCIENCE, Technology, Engineering, Math)

I don’t feel like I have the stats to get in at all, let alone get a LL… But out of curiosity, does anyone know if they send them to international students as well?
