I'm not sure what I want to major in....maaayyyybbbbeee music. I hear Yale music students go for free. Regardless of my chances at getting into Yale at all (they're probably mediochre chances), how hard is it to be accepted into Yale music school?

I play bass trombone and I got 100 on NYSSMA solo this year (so, basically all-state in New York).

i think that free tuition thing is for Yale Conservatory only and thats graduate level? maybe im wrong but i thought thats how it works

Though you can major in music as an undergrad but it is not free because it is a BA degree from the College. There is no undergrad conservatory so you cannot major in trombone performance.

What you are thinking of The Yale School of Music which is a professional/graduate school. That is free for all students as a result of a recent anonymous endowment.

congrats on your 100 .....i got a 98 on NYSSMA no all state for me.. guess theres next year

The grant to the Yale School of Music assures free tuition only to graduate students working toward their graduate degree. Yale has a combined BA/MM program which is a 5 year program. The 5th year would theoretically be tuition free for those students in this program.

That program...though less well known...would be equally difficult to get into as the Columbia/Juilliard and Harvard/NEC programs

The Yale School of Music is a graduate school. It was hard to get into in the first place, but now with free tuition the acceptance rate is steep--about 5%.

Tons of All-State anything students apply to Yale and get rejected. If you played on From the Top or have any national recognition, then they might consider it a hook.
