Yale NUS Class of 2020

Hi guys, I haven’t seen any thread for Yale NUS applicants this year, so I thought it would be a good idea to start one! Has any of you applied to Yale NUS Round 1? I applied Early Action at Yale and shared my application with Yale NUS. I didn’t know I had to send SAT scores directly, so I just sent them a couple of days ago and I know they won’t arrive by the deadline, unfortunately. Are you guys going to write the supplemental essay?

I can’t seem to find this information anywhere, what documents are needed for FINANCIAL AID at Yale-NUS?

Hi @an1620! I’m a current student at Yale-NUS. The financial aid application, as I remember it, is within the Yale-NUS application portal. Not sure if you have access to that yet–if you do, check in there. Best of luck!

@bsb4389 In the application portal, I only have the option to upload the documents. The problem is that I don’t know what documents are needed for financial aid, since I am guessing they are different from those needed for colleges in the US. And I can’t find the requirements anywhere on the website :frowning: Since you are already enrolled, could you tell me what do you think about Yale-NUS so far? How has your experience been?

Hello! Which supplemental essay are you talking about?

@foldedblossoms The why Yale-NUS essay. After I applied via the checkbox on the Yale Common App, I got an email from Yale-NUS telling me that I can write an additional essay about what has influenced my decision to apply. Did you also apply to Yale-NUS?

@an1620 Yep, I applied to round 1 as well! Ah, I see. I’ve looked up quite a bit on Yale-NUS and if I’m not wrong, forms for financial aid would only be sent out after being granted admission …? Hopefully @bsb4389 would be able to clarify when they’re back online (-:

@foldedblossoms @an1620 Is there an application for financial aid within your applicant portal (should be a hyperlink to the financial aid form)? If I recall correctly, that’s how I filled in the financial aid (it is a short form, with some declarations you have to scan and upload. The instructions should be in the form itself). I remember it was relatively easy when I did it, but they may have changed the form this year… Let me know what you find!

@foldedblossoms I found this on their website
"Applicants who have applied by the deadlines below, and have submitted a complete financial aid application and all supporting documents, will receive financial aid notification along with the admission decision. "

The deadline for round 1 is November 20.
“Applicants are encouraged to submit their financial aid applications by the deadlines above. However, financial aid applications will be accepted through 15 May 2016 for Rounds 1 and 2, and through 1 June 2016 for Round 3.”

@bsb4389 No, I can’t seem to find any link to a financial aid form. However, you can upload additional documents and one of the options is “Any other Financial Aid documents”. But there is no information whatsoever about what types of documents are needed for FA.

@an1620 Crap, I think I misinterpreted the following section, sorry!

“Upon review of admission applications, select applicants will be contacted for an interview with Yale-NUS. At that time, the Yale-NUS application for need-based financial aid will be available to interviewees on the applicant portal.”

@bsb4389 Yep, there isn’t a link of any sorts to a financial aid form. Also, I’ve not received any email about an interview … Is that a bad sign?

@an1620 Might not be up yet. I can ask tomorrow at work and report back to you guys! Also @foldedblossoms don’t worry. Some of the interviews are slow to roll around (they check some parts of your application before contacting you). Can happen anytime in the next week(s)! I got mine extremely fast (like a day or two after submitting), but others got theirs a week or two after.

@bsb4389 Thank you! I would appreciate that

The financial aid form is available on the YaleNUS portal once called for interview. Admin told DS that all “short-listed” applicants are interviewed. For international, the interview is via Skype

Hi EA applicant here, so I found something seemingly unusual and I don’t really know what it means. I was going through the mail today after school and found this thick envelope (well, not that thick, it was a regular envelope, but you could tell it held like a two or three page letter) from the Yale Office of Admissions addressed to my mom. I didn’t open it of course, but was completely taken aback. My mother is a Yale graduate school alumni who just recently went to visit the college to work with a professor regarding her work (completely separate from the university, she works in a private company unaffiliated with Yale). She doesn’t have any connections with admissions or even the university itself aside from that professor. I’ve never heard of parents receiving letters from the office before, so I have no idea what to think.

I also have an unusual personal situation I wrote about in the additional info part of the Common App (my dad died a few years ago). Could they possibly be writing to verify that? Seems unusual to me.

What do you guys make of this? Kinda freaking out.

Why don’t you ask your mom what was in the letter?

@WhereTwo thanks for the info! Do you have any idea if only short-listed candidates are finally offered admission? @johnnyisgod I agree with @Falcon1 you should ask your mother about it. However, I don’t think it’s something to worry about. Maybe they are requesting some financial aid forms or something to demonstrate you family’s situation.

@an1620 Yes only shortlisted candidates are offered admission. If you don’t get an interview, then you won’t be admitted.

@bsb4389 Do you know when the last batch of interview emails would be sent out?

Hey guys,
Have any of you received interview calls yet?

Notified of my interview earlier this week. It is scheduled for Monday (Singapore time). I am an American student!
