@Putative Hello! Thank you for starting this thread! I’m a Round 1, A Level applicant from the UAE, but a native Indian at heart I just submitted my application this morning, and I’m hoping for the best! Good luck to everyone!
Congratulations, @tommakesfilms!!! Everyone gets shortlisted at different times depending on when he/she submitted their application. I submitted mine just a day before the deadline, so I will get to know in a few weeks. When did you submit yours?
I just had my interview! It was really chill. My interviewer was a senior at YNC and he just asked about my academic interests, my school, my favorite class, “tell me about yourself,” and why Yale-NUS. It ended up being around 35 min.
@alwayslate17 Congrats!! Are you from Singapore? And the site says that decisions come out only in early April, so I’m a bit confused about the decision date… Will everyone get their decision notifications at different times based on regions etc?
@yirinee I’m from the states! I read from past threads that they keep sending interview invites until February so don’t fret. But ya I was really confused when he said decisions were going to be out so soon.
Also, have you heard anything about the number of applicants this year? Because I’m getting the feeling they didn’t receive as many since they extended the app deadline.
@alwayslate17 They extended the app deadline, really? I had no idea! I read from other threads that their acceptance rate has increased over the past 1-2 years due to a decline in the number of applicants, but I’m not really sure about the stats for this year. Hope everything works out for us! Good luck! And nice username btw :))
@yirinee I submitted my application on Jan 2 because I submitted my application to Yale-NUS as part of the Yale application. One of my teacher recommendations was a bit late, so after that was submitted I got an interview a few days after.
The interview was really fun and conversational, and I loved my interviewer. I felt he was genuinely curious to know more.
@alwayslate17 Yeah I saw that somewhere on the CC threads of previous years, but quite frankly, I don’t trust it; it’s only one person claiming so. I hope it actually is 15%-20%, but I doubt that it’s that low.
Hello, I just got my interview invite yesterday and will be giving the interview over skype since I am an international student. What sort of questions should I be expecting? And what environment does it have around the interview room?
@Danny3895 Congrats!! The interview was very relaxed and not formulaic. My interviewer asked a couple questions about topics I previously mentioned in the “tell me about yourself” question. He also asked “Why Yale-NUS” and “what are your academic interests” (normal interview questions). None of the questions were tricky or very hard to answer. I felt like there weren’t really any awkward or silent times except for at the end.
