Whats the deadline for interviews? Also (just wondering) does how early you get invited for an interview indicate how strong you are as a candidate?
Sorry it’s just I got rejected from 5/6 of the ivies I applied to and Stanford so naturally I want to convince myself that I have a decent shot at this school haha.
I wouldn’t worry, you’re doing much better than me
No deadline either I’m assuming the 13th to be shortlisted, because I applied for financial aid and that was the deadline to submit finaid documents
I need some help. I’m not going to accept defeat; I really want to go to YNC even if it means I have to take loans for full tuition, I’d even give my right hand (I’m left handed haha). What do you think I should do? What could I do now to make sure I’m admitted? I’ve already sent them an obsessive amount of emails and i haven’t called because of international rates… I really want to get into this school…
@ethanwatson4 I love your spirit. First of all when did you send them the emails? For example when I had to reschedule my interview and had to contact the college it took them 3 days to reply me (Friday morning until Monday afternoon) which is pretty quick. So if they haven’t replied to your emails at all please call them! Also don’t lose hope. Remember decisions come out in four weeks and last two rounds there were people who got the interview one week before the decision… so obviously they do it on rolling basis and ur application simply hasn’t been reviewed yet.
However I would still check if I were you… by calling them…
I’ve had a few responses which were “thanks for updating”. I have a person in mind to call; I’m just not sure what to say since I’ve updated them (letter included my most important hobbies in depth and how they would help me contribute to YNC’s community) and he/she acknowledged it (a nice email back too). Should I go the desperate route? Like, “what else can I do: rewrite my essays, explain why my class rank isn’t super high (transferred schools twice), describe my other ec’s?” What should I say? In my position, it’s hard not to sound desperate… cause I am :s I sent that email about a week ago, although I’ve been in contact with another AO since the beginning of april
@ethanwatson4 SAME HERE, I really really wanna get into YNC I’ve also sent them a lot of emails, even asking a third recommender to write in because my second recommender wrote only my achievements and hardly anything about my character (not that I have a bad character) so I sought help from a third recommender sigh I’m really desperate and YNC is my only hope
@ethanwatson4 oh so you sent that EC list like a supplement on their website? Like a resumé?
Honestly It would be very bad if you ask them to let you rewrite your essay because then they would think that what you wrote was inscencere or rushed and that would reflect negatively on your personality… but you should definitely tell them about your class rank and make clear any extenuating circumstances you might have…
Also I understand your need to keep them updated but I doubt one more reiteration of your application will help… how about submitting more supplementary material e.g. A research abstract?
Also if/when you get an interview make sure you tell them it is your first choice.
Sorry I know this may be too private but can you please send me the essay you wrote for ‘why try something new?’ I’m curious what you wrote…
@digyournose why is YNC your only hope?
I’m guessing @digyournose is in the same position as me. I got into some pretty decent schools that are awesome, but YNC is different. It’s the one school that makes me reject the “school choice for undergrad doesn’t really matter” thing. There are just too many great and amazing things that I would miss out on by not attending Yale nus, like starting clubs, traveling Asia, stuff like that. My other options are probably more secure but the risk ans adventure that comes to ync is something I really like, and I think @digyournose might be like that too. Idk
@CheonSongYi as in YALE NUS is the only school I’m Super interested in! I would love to show u the essay I wrote tbh because it’s something I firmly believe in
@ethanwatson4 I’m afraid I might not get in because of my academic results to be honest. I come from a design course which is Super subjective. I made significant improvements in. T grades of course but I didn’t graduate as top of the cohort. But I have loads of cca and cip outside which I included. Unlike you, I haven’t gotten any replies from any of the universities I applied to and I’m Super worried YNC said they look at the applications holistically and I honestly wonder how true is that.
@digyournose the process is completely holistic and my admission is proof. @ethanwatson4 what are the other colleges you got into??
@DEEPUSS how so??? Did u take SATs? And are you from Singapore?
@digyournose you must submit your SATs. it says so on their website. no i’m from India. i did not have very high scores.but i did have extracurriculars and other activities. seriously if you judge me by my academics i’m no where near YNC material. thankfully it was holistic so…
Oh I’m from Singapore so I didn’t take SATs! I have a lot of CCAs revolving around performing arts and volunteer work etc church and stuff! But I’m still quite scared sigh I improved a lot in y3 of my poly which was harder to attain a perfect 4 but my y1-y2 pulled me down sigh. Still hoping for good news! I submitted my application on 18/3 but my Lecturers only submitted recommendations on the 30/3 and currently I asked for one more to write just in case I really wanna get in
When I call, what should I say?
@digyournose sure please send me the essay you wrote I’d love to read it
@CheonSongYi yay! Email? I’ll show u my quick takes as well xx
