It just feels so horrible to say "no" to Dartmouth - they're so nice, and the interviewer was wonderful. But Yale - well, my dream school. Should I give Dartmouth at least a second look when accepted to Y? (what would be the reasons?) What would you reccomend? Thanks for help.

yah, i'm in the inverse of that dilemma. you should.

i love dartmouth, but i'm giving yale a chance still. i'm waiting til after dimensions and bulldog days.

elberet & handsonthedash - my son is trying to decide between these 2 as well.... how how are you getting to Dimensions from Yale?

my dad might be taking me, but i'm trying to get on the Dartmouth bus. He is flying out with me cause he needs to talk ot the fin aid office.

Nataliya, I never thought I would hear this coming from YOU! ;) Haha, you have a great choice. You know what my vote is - heck, look at the thread you started over on the Yale forum for reasons - but you really can't go wrong. I'll make sure your head is screwed on correctly at Bulldog Days, though. ;)

I know it can be difficult to turn down people like that, but choose on the one you like best. They're both great schools (duh), but I would say that Yale has much stronger resources than Dartmouth.

At any rate, it depends on what you want to do and what type of community you want.

Your visits will help you decide. Big difference in people. I thought Yale was my dreram school til I observed the people on the Yale board over a period of months and watched Yale's very hypocritical accept. policy...(like taking that 1220 football player instead of the top kids in that school..."Yale is foremost an academic institution") I'm actually sad it isn't what I thought it was. And D onthe other hand, is so much more than I origninally expected. But that's the thing---you have to go and see where you will feel the best and your peers will be a big part of that equation.

I would disagree that Yale has "much stronger resources" than Dartmouth. If you look at the endowment per student, Dartmouth is like 3rd or 4th in that, which is I believe is a more important stat than overall endowment figures.

Yale was originally my dream school, but Dartmouth was MUCH better for me, I feel. I have some friends at Yale, and there is a very "cliquey" feel and a definite social hierarchy. And the kids at Yale don't know how to party like those at D (straight consensus from several friends who visited a weekend in the fall) Good for you for keeping an open mind; don't let statistics and other people ultimately choose your college for you!

Also remember, Yale is a university. Bigger resources and a slightly higher "prestige" factor, but much of that is attributed to research and grad programs. Make sure you are choosing on UNDERGRAD experience (ultimately why D was right for me... primarily focused on the undergrads) rather than the overall university.
