I am so confused as to which school to choose.

Yale has been my dream school since I ever knew there was something called college, and it will be an awesome undergard experience. But on the other hand, I will be risking becoming a doctor, ever in my life.

Northwestern offered me a guaranteed admission to the med school with 3 years of undergrad. That means I will be a doctor before I'm 30... and I that's the only career I want, at least right now.

People tell me I'm such a yale-ish person, that they can all see me there, but I also want to be practical.

I am so confused.... What do you guys think?

anyone? please?

i posted on yale board too.

you must be crazy to not go to the northwestern program ;)

Go to Yale. You're a bright kid who knows what the application process takes and you'll be fine when you take the MCAT, when you take your finals, when you write your essays, and when you interview. You'll do good research and get plenty of hospital exposure, partly because Yale is Yale and partly because you're you.

You'll be fine. You'll like it there. It's a good place.

Go to the NU program if you would go to NU for undergrad regardless of your admission to the program. It seems like you'd prefer to go to Yale, so go to Yale. It's a fine school and you should do fine for med school admissions. You'll be happier and more successful.

Since you admit to not being 100% sure about going into medicine, a pragmatic position which I applaud because it's not seen nearly enough on these boards, I'd recommend going to Yale. You will have broader exposure to varied interests there than you would at Northwestern without in any way hindering your plans for a medical career. Either choice is excellent; it just seems to me that Yale is where you want to go and this program is the only thing preventing you from doing so, which it shouldn't.

go to Yale. Again, I second mike

If you really want to be an MD - go to HPME
If you are not sure - go to Yale. You get time to figure your objectives out.

It's that simple.

Gina,
It seems like you are really in love with Yale. I doubt you will risk becoming a doctor if you go there because you worked extremely hard to get into HPME and if you put that same work ethic in during undergrad, you will surely get into med schools. I am choosing Northwestern HPME over Penn, Duke, etc. because I feel that its an incredible opportunity for me to pursue the things I'm passionate about during undergrad and then move on to an incredible medical school without having to stress over the med school application process. I feel that its a lifetime opportunity for me. You would not be the only one giving up ivies and other top schools if you choose HPME b/c on the facebook group, almost everyone got into an ivy and you will be surrounded by people who are ivy caliber students at Northwestern. If you are 100% certain that you want to become a doctor, I recommend HPME because it's too good of an opportunity to pass up.

as much as i am biased towards HPME, it sounds like Yale is the school for you :)
