It's pretty much in the title. I know that Stanford is stronger in the sciences, but I am not really a California person, plus everything is so expensive down there.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think I'd apply to both (and others) and let the outcome decide for me.

I agree with Pearl.

With that said, I must caution you on a personal level. I grew up in California, left for college, and had the chance to return here for further schooling. California is a very... specific place, with a very specific feel. People who belong here really belong here; people who don't really don't. I don't belong here, and the truth is that you might not, either.

If you know already that you're "not a California person", I'd urge you to pay attention to that. This isn't a place where everybody will eventually grow to love it. Goodness knows I never did. There's a reason we have a huge exodus of people leaving for other states.

(True enough, however, that there's a reason we have a huge influx of people coming in, too. Some people really do like it here.)

Pearl: I was accepted to both as a transfer :)
The outcome didn't really decide for me.

bluedevilmike: I was really really afraid of that :(

Well, if you've visited Stanford, and still believe that you're not a California person, then by all means, go to Yale. Great school. That's what I would do.
