Stats:

International transfer student (Canada)
Sophomore
URM (black haitian)
gpa: 3.7/4.3
SATs: 2250
past hs transcripts: average. Weakest point.
Essays: Very good I think. Writing is my passion.
Recommendation: Glowing- my advertising teacher really, really liked me.
EC: Varied. All pertaining to sustainability, city politics and multiculturalism. College debate team (national silver last year) and marketing competitions.

I don't have much money to spend on admissions fees (and international students don't get fee waivers I'm told) so I'm really trying to pick my choices very carefully. Part of me wants to apply to Harvard even if I don't believe I have a big shot there; it's mostly just for the "never know if you don't try factor...."
As for choosing my reach I'm stuck between those two. I love both and would like to know which is a more likely reach and the overall better prospect for my profile.

Thanks in advance

you've told us too little to really give real predictions or comments... but... I think that stanford is a little more forgiving on low grades. they look more for quirks and intellectual curiousity, etc... than being hung up only on numbers.

On paper you look good enough to warrant a second look in the extremely competitive world of transfers...I sort of don't understand though..is your 3.7/4.3 your hs grades or your college grades? Also, if it's your hs grades what are your college grades or vice-versa? Furthermore, what school in Canada do you go too...this can be very important? Good Luck!

Thanks explode. I always thought Stanford was the proper one, more axed on grades than anything else.

My 3.7 gpa is for college. (We did not have the gpa system in high school)

My high school grades were average I won't lie; 75-85 range.
Attended Champlain St-Lambert College.

Monday morning bump =)

Well... last year stanford accepted a whopping total of 20 transfers. So I don't think it is really "likely" especially when the pool is extremely large. I'd suggest just applying to both
