conwoman, what exactly did you do to "improve" your apps from EA to RD?

Well, to improve my apps, I got a great outside recommendation from a family friend, I redid a music CD I sent in, which was bad at first but better after I had more time to record it, I improved my essay and for some schools, wrote supplementary essays/short answers. Some other minor things, including organization and other awards I won during that time might have helped as well.

This is the most "inspirational" post I've ever read...it's like Chicken Soup for the Deferred Yalie Soul.

Either way, the stories are appreciated.

thanks a bunch.
makes me look forward, past dec15.
hmmm stanfords a good schoool.. :)

stanford's an awesome school ;)

I got in EA to Yale... It feels amazing.

I got deferred by Yale too. But Oxford accepted me. Strange, huh?

I'm still going all out for Yale though, since it's really my dream school. :)

something nice for the 2011 SCEAers to read

Thanks for bumping it, lionofjudah. I'm bookmarking this thread. :)

Dec 15th is two days before my semester exams, so I'm just worried about whether my morale will be crushed to the point where I'll be crying instead of studying...

Coureur, thanks! I admire your daughter for the schools she did get accepted to and I hope that colleges will do the same for us...

thanks coureur, that really boosted my confidence level.

dec 15th is the day after / day my school's fall trimester ends, winter break begins

fabulous

coureur, it's nice for you to warn us of this, but at least wait until december rolls around :D some of us stll have to submit our apps tonight!

^^I did wait until December. Look at the date on the original post. Somebody bumped this up from last year. It still applies for this year though.

Oh i'm sorry! Thank you.

Bump. Again

Awesome thread.

I read this like everday... so inspiring...

I'd like to add my daughter's story to coureur's daughter's story. Last year my d. applied EA to Yale. She was sure it was her first choice. If Yale accepted her she planned to matriculate immediately and not explore any other schools and what they might have to offer. Well come December she found out she was deferred and like coureur's daughter she was sure that this was an omen of even worse things to come. She was convinced that she would be rejected everywhere that she applied. EA had been her best shot, she told herself, and now her applications were doomed. It was a long winter here and not a whole lot of fun.

Then came spring. . .Yale's deferral became an outright rejection. But that was her only rejection, she was accepted at Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, and a slew of other schools. Brown's acceptance included acceptance into their PLME BA/MD program. Things really did work out for the best for her, she ended up with choices and options that she would never had had if Yale had accepted her early. If December brings unhappy news for any of you, please trust that things really will work out for the best and best of luck to all of you!

shelf-life, where did your daughter end up matriculating?
