Yale-Princeton Cross Admits?

Hey! To anyone who's in the same situation as me, how are you going to choose between these two amazing schools? I feel so conflicted!

Have you visited? If at all possible, go to admitted students days at both schools. They “feel” very differently.

I’m currently deciding between Yale and Smith. It’s awful, I’m so torn! XD

Im in the exact same situation as you! Im gonna visit princeton and yale this month.

I plan on visiting both Bulldog Days and Princeton Preview. I’ve never been to the East Coast in the last decade, so it’ll be interesting.

OMG…I’m in the exact situation. What if I visit and fall in love with both? ==

oh, then you cut yourself in half, of course…

My kid was in same situation last year.
We decided yale over princeton after bulldog day.
Visiting is critically important!
When we visited, We had the best experience at yale.
I dont need to say about the academic factor, right?
The kids seemed the nicest, friendliest, and happiest !!
And residential college was great that I cant describe exactly.

And at princeton felt competitive vibe on that campus, which was not appealing to us.

Yale for liberal arts and Princeton for hard sciences/engineering.

People do complain about grade deflation at Princeton. If you attend bulldog days, it might seal your fate.

Last year, I had to pick between Yale, Princeton, and MIT. Though Princeton was my dream school for a while, after visiting, I chose Yale hands down. Go to Bulldog days and Princeton Preview. Having a lot of friends at Princeton, I can say the grade inflation is very stressful and it is very elitist and selective. Also, the ability to double major, and get a masters in four years at Yale is amazing.

If you are planning to go to any graduate school - Law, Medicine, PhD, MBA, I would say Yale hands down. The graduate schools at Yale, along with the grade inflation, and free time outside of the classroom give you a huge edge. Plus, it’s so much fun. Strictly speaking, I would say Princeton has a slight edge in iBanking, but the difference in grade deflation is so massive I would give Yale the edge. But for engineering/computer science/etc. I would choose Princeton.

What do you mean by hard sciences? The reason I ask is Yale has one of the top Biology UG’s in the country.

@sunshine02 Flip a coin  And I hope the coin says Princeton  You can’t go wrong with these two schools can you?

Reasons for Yale over Princeton: Happier people (at least that was my impression), really awesome res college system, grade inflation (though I hear that grade deflation at Princeton doesn’t affect the science and engineering people as much)

Reasons for Princeton over Yale: Princeton>>>>>New Haven, Princeton’s better science/engineering programs (which is what I’m looking to get into)

At the moment, I’m favoring Princeton, but only for the better science/engineering programs. At the same time, though, I don’t want to lock myself into that, because I could very well not go into that at all. Gah.

Hopefully, BDD and Princeton Preview will help me make that choice. I hope to see some of you there!

and @bethany555: Yale wouldn’t help as much if i’m looking to go to grad school for science/engineering, would it?

Choose Yale if you think it is important to be happy and to be surrounded by happy people.

Choose Princeton if you want a campus that is safe and has a ‘gated community’ feel to it.

You would be hard pressed to convince my son there is grade inflation at Yale, at least in STEM classes. If anything, it’s the opposite.

"The reason I ask is Yale has one of the top Biology UG’s in the country. "

If they are, they don’t need to issue likelies to attract STEM students.

You do if you are competing with Harvard which is #1. Still #7 in world and #5 in U.S.

Not too bad for graduate studies either.

for poli. sci/gov./econ. major any thoughts for Harvard, Yale or Princeton… or Stanford? We are thrilled for our son who got in to all 11 schools he applied to. But now the decision?

If you believe those world rankings, I can sell you the brooklyn bridge. They are scoring Harvard at 98 vs 62 for Yale and still make them number 7 at 2/3rd score for academics.

Graduate school programs are usually quite good when colleges have high ranking medical schools.

Bottom line - Yale is severely disadvantaged at recruiting STEM students and hence they do the whole travel paid for event in February and issue 150-200 likelies exclusively to attract STEM students in January.

And what anecdotal evidence do you have for why Princeton is so much better? Again, when you have MIT and Harvard in your backyard you do have to try and lure students but that does not indicate the program itself is inferior. If recruiting is your only argument you need to do better to convince me otherwise.
