Yale RD Chances? Thanks!

-Hey. Please disregard the other chances thread i made before. i screwed that one up haha. sry about that. but anyway, I applied early to Princeton, but I probably shouldn't rely solely on getting into that school. so i was wondering what my chances are for Yale, another school that I really love for its research and music.
Decent chances, but nothing really stands out about you. Your test scores are unbalanced and a 690 is on the low side for Yale (according to Yale, the middle 50% range is 700-790, so 690 is in the bottom 25% of accepted applicants, which is mainly for minorities and special cases)...even setting your SAT score aside, your extracurriculars are really not that special, with the exception of your research and interests which are unique. I think it all depends on your school's record with Yale. How many people get into Yale from your school? Are their stats somewhat like yours or are they much better? That would be a much more useful thing to look into if you wanted to determine chances.

alright thanks for your honest opinion. :) i honestly dont know how else i can make my extracurriculars better. seriously lol. i definitely cant get better than All-Eastern! haha. hmm imo, i thought i really showed passion and accomplishments in the things i did, but i guess ur response is just cause of the competitive nature of the applicant pool so its cool. :) but my academics i thought i kind of evened myself out. im 10 pts below critical reading 50% range, but 10 pts above math 50% range, so im like. "hmm im within the range, i guess ill apply!" lol. but yea my academics could be better. time to research some more schools!

bump! :) :)

bump again! :) sry for obsessing im a little worried thats all....

If you have not already sent in your application, I would recommend not sending in all those supplemental materials. Have you heard the saying about thick applicants having thick files? I'd send in the ONE supplemental item that you think is the most impressive and leave it at that. Yale officially discourages sending in any supplemental materials (that includes additional recs), so you'd really annoy them with two recs, a CD, newsletter sample and research abstract.

alright thanks. i think i will end up taking one thing out after all, probably the newsletter sample and the supplementary rec that goes w/ it.

besides yale, do u know if places like Brown, Harvard, MIT, Columbia, Cornell, Williams, JHU, think about sending supplementary materials? thanks.

Look on their website, you can tell how they feel about supplements from what they officially say

You can tell Yale discourages it from the way they phrase it

Aoshi--If you take out the newsletter and rec that goes with it, you still have your CD, music rec, abstract and rec from mentor. That is FOUR supplemental items. At admissions officer presentations they say that Yale officially discourages ANY supplemental materials, but that it's probably OK to send in ONE additional item.

Haha Aoshi wow I thought you were a female all along! No offense...

Anyway, I saw you posted under my yale chances post, and you may be jealous of my academics but I am jealous of your ECs! =P lol. GREAT JOB (no sarcasm intended), seriously i wish i had your leadership and stuff.

hey yea thx, but my academics could be better, especially for ivy league caliber schools. but im satisfied with where i am now. yea hopefully my music and research supplements will help me. i guess ill take out the newsletter and the rec with it, since i already have it on my app.
Admissionsaddict: aren't supplementary recs and supplementary items two different things? so im really just sending two supplementary items.
but if these supplements are as good as im hoping they are, Yale will NOT get annoyed with sending "too much" items. and dun worry about thinking i was female cookiemunster2 LOL good luck to you forr Princeton too.

*sigh if i get into Princeton ED i dont have to worry about ANY of this crap! (hopefully..........) :)

Does anyone else have any inputs? thanks.

bump................
