@2562ivy Don’t email the admissions office about interviews. They have NOTHING to do with the scheduling of interviews. As long as he has an Eli Account that is set up and working, he’s in the system and his application will be read. Interviews are NOT required and applicants are NOT penalized if they cannot schedule an interview or are not offered one.
Thank you.
@2562ivy - the goal is to interview everyone but of course that’s not always possible. You can be admitted without an interview. I was. Good luck!!!
Hi guys: just curious if any of you have received yes-w letters? I’m wondering when they are getting sent out
@mistswirl Probably not for a little bit. Also, waiting for a likely letter is like watching paint dry that you’re not even sure exists in the first place. You might get one, you might not. You might not get in if you don’t get one, but you still might. Chill.
@mistswirl Hi I’m sorry I’m not very sure, but what’s a yes-w letter?
@Bulldog2017 haha I’m not waiting for paint to dry; I’m just asking to see if they’ve been sent yet. Don’t worry–my panties aren’t in a bunch
@12345n Yes-w letters are likely letters that are historically sent to around 100 yale RD applicants who excel in STEM areas. They’re invited to a weekend in February-ish at Yale where they get to meet the other yes-w applicants and participate in fun activities of some sort (not really clear on specifics of those events)
My daughter applied to Yale RD and was offered a Skype interview. We do not have a webcam, so she was offered a phone interview instead–but she really does not want to interview over the phone. She could borrow a webcam from a friend, but she has never used it and doesn’t particularly like that option either. How does a phone or Skype interview differ from an in-person one? Should she ask if it is possible to drive a little farther than 20 miles that she initially indicated that we can go? We live in the suburbs of Chicago. Please advise.
Try Google hangout.
There is no difference between Skype and in-person.
Good luck!
The Yale interview was my first Skype interview (just had it over the weekend) and in the middle of it, the internet connection actually broke (I think my interviewer was convinced that it was his fault, though we don’t know for sure) and we switched to phone interview instead. Still, I thought it was a pretty good interview anyhow. The main difference is that you can’t see any visual cues for phone interviews, but hey, you’ll get to have notes for them. (Though I didn’t prepare notes since I was expecting a functional Skype interview.)
If I were your daughter, I would not request for a face to face interview instead because that might be difficult to accomodate. You don’t want Yale to be like, “oh well, I guess no interview for you then.” Just take the phone interview, it’ll be okay.
Also, this is just pure speculation, but the fact that she got an interview early might be a good sign. I know that all of my friends from EA that applied to Yale had this one professor for interview who is REALLY close to where I live. I got a Skype interview for RD instead, though my classmates who applied RD to Yale did not get one from Skype or from the professor yet. I thought my interviewer hinted that mine was a expedited interview too. I applied for engineering, and I have a feeling that it might have something to do with YES-W. I don’t know.
Either way, sorry for ranting about this. Take the phone interview, take a deep breath. She’ll be okay. Good luck!
Thank you for the input, That’s reassuring.
@ILmom7, My daughter had a Yale interview on Monday. We live basically in the middle of nowhere so she was offered a virtual one as well. She just used her iPhone for the Skype interview, you don’t need a webcam for that. I think (talking on the) phone would have been fine as well. She was nervous but thinks it went well, her interviewer put her at ease. Your daughter will do well either way, the interviewers are very easy to talk to/with.
Thanks @nobody426 and @jomama2g . My daughter has been offered regular interviews with Stanford and other schools, her friends with Brown, etc. We live in the suburbs of Chicago - so I would think they’d have sombody here from Yale.
Looks like Yale is going in the “virtual” direction.
To all of those who have already received interview’s - when did you apply and how were you notified (by email? by phone?)
@fizzy110 I applied on Dec. 30th and was notified by email for an interview
@fizzy110 , my daughter also applied on Dec 30th (31?) and was notified by email.
Did anyone get any likely call or email from the admissions?
@fizzy110 I applied on 12/22 and was also notified by email.
Thanks for your responses! It seems like most all were contacted by email. I was slightly worried by @TPerry1982’s previous comments about not picking the phone, because that is literally me! I never pick the phone if I don’t recognize the number. But since I submitted my app on the 31st, I haven’t received any “unknown number phone calls”, so I think I’m good. I’m an international so I’m guessing that it will be sometime before I hear back about an interview.
Does anyone have Yale interview experiences they would like to share in further detail? Any tips?! I haven’t had any college interviews yet, so I would love to hear about your experiences!
