I actually just had my Yale interview yesterday, via Skype! I’ve had 7 alumni interviews thus far (including this one, yikes, I know!). This was actually the best one! I’m in Florida and she was in California. She actually said that she was given a lot of students to interview through Skype.
Definitely be yourself and be REAL. She made me feel really comfortable, yet asked some pretty tough questions very casually----like a conversation as opposed to my Tufts Skype interview which was really hard (disconnected multiple times!).
You could tell she was really listening to me, because all of her tougher questions were really in-depth and had to do with what I was talking about. Her most generic question was “what was your favorite class?”. Instead she was asking questions that referred back to previous statements. There were A LOT of laughs, which made everything really laid back and easy. She was the only interviewer who asked me what I do on a daily basis.
Good luck + definitely be calm, cool, and collected at the same time as enthusiastic and passionate!
Don’t be stressed or nervous…
My first interview was in person with Wesleyan and I was SO nervous. I literally would have, like, 30 seconds of me just forgetting what I was going to say. The nerves killed me, yet the interviewer still said that I’m a “perfect fit”. So definitely just be yourself and show off your uniqueness. Don’t try to fit a “Yale mold” because that’s not what they want (I would think!).
I applied on 1/1 and got an interview request a little more than a week ago. Had my interview during the past weekend.
On a side note, someone on Facebook had gotten a call about YES-W today and received an email about it today. Last year, those letters were sent on 1/23, I think. (Don’t worry over it, though, but I know a few of you–including me–are keeping tabs on that.)
@schoolgirl96, thanks so much for your reply! I actually just got contacted for my first interview, and am freaking out, but I’ll definitely try to keep your advice in mind. :s
If I haven’t received notice about an interview (NYC), does that mean I won’t get one? (ie; have most of you near me already been contacted?) I’m not particularly worried, just want to know.
Had my interview last Saturday and I must say that I was impressed with my interviewer’s enthusiasm towards Yale, which made me want to go to Yale even more. Now I have to wait until March to see if I got accepted… MARCH PLEASE COME FASTER :((
Hey guys! Just a question: my counselor submitted the final report without submitting the mid year report (different academic calendar) but my Eli account still shows the mid year report as “not received” and the final report is nowhere to be seen. I emailed them about this a week ago and they haven´t answered yet… what would you do in my place? Do I just leave things the way they are and assume they received the final report (it appears as “downloaded” on my Common App account)? Or should I worry and contact them asap?
@123whatever Try phoning the admissions office! I’m not sure what the final report means in your academic context, but I imagine the admissions office is overflowing with miscellaneous documents they have to manage right now. I called the admissions office before (about something else – extra rec letters), and they were super chill and flexible with anything that goes into your file.
Also, wouldn’t mid-year report be your final grades from last semester? Again, I’m not sure how your school operates, but anyway, it does take some time for your application checklist to be updated.
On a side note, has anyone from NorCal received an interview notification yet? I’ve been getting a bunch from other schools, but Yale here seems unusually quiet.
