I am always in awe over the size of the pool and the minimal selection that comes out of it. This truly puts into perspective just how holistic the process has to be.
Absolutely, because I am sure 99% of those kids have stellar grades and scores. Did you see that Yale was listed #1 in what counts - freshman retention rate of 99% and on-time graduation rate of 89%. I love my alma mater!!
Cannot express how grateful we are to Yale for the incredible need-based financial aid. It makes it possible for our talented, driven and brilliant kid to be around other talented, brilliant, driven kids…study abroad…do internships without worrying about tuition for next semester…and participate in campus life to the fullest extent possible, since work study at $12 an hour pays more than his very hard-working older sibling (works three jobs) has ever made. Of course his books and summer contribution are “skin in the game” and obviously he is more limited in his choices than his well-off peers, but still, it is a dream come true.
@momcinco - even some kids like mine who really don’t have to work (though I definitely did while I was there) do work. They may not be able to get the work study jobs that are reserved for students that need them for financial aid purposes. She has worked in the buttery, works as one of the Yale liaisons to a New Haven public school and has another job in her college that I won’t describe because it will be too easy to then identify her. It pays well and will help her a lot with the type of law she may want to practice.
