How big is the room at Yale? Like if i wanted my parents to visit would they be able to stay in the room with me for a night? For that matter, which offers the best rooms Yale vs. Harvard vs. Princeton?

Consider this post of mine a head shake of wonder.

…must resist urge to comment on the mere thought of staying in college kid’s room…

nope, I couldn’t resist

LOL

Can U imagine?

Dad:“Um, excuse me, Missy. Can I get in the shower next? It’s OK that I use your shower gel? Thanks a bunch! You wouldn’t happen to have a spare towel now wouldja?”

Mom: “Sweetie, I slept fine. The beer cans under the cushions weren’t bad after I emptied them out and put them in the hallway. I’m sure the smell on my pajamas will come right out in the wash. What? No, the noise of the couple rutting in the next room wasn’t annoying either, honey. Honest.”

.

If it hasn’t been clear yet, no there is not room for your parents. Space-wise, yes, the rooms are big enough but they would not be comfortable and it would make an awkward situation for your room/ suite mates.

I had the exact same reaction.

Well, there are always holiday vacations.

I haven’t seen the rooms at princeton, but from what i’ve seen at harvard they are pretty similar to yale rooms-- both have suite style rooms with bedrooms off of a common room. They are pretty big for dorm rooms.

There is plenty of room for friends to come and spend the night on the couch in the common room. People have their friends from other schools over a lot and you just need to ask your suitemates if it is alright. But i have never heard of a parent staying over in the dorms. My parents have come seen my room but they stay at a hotel when they visit.

But which school has the better rooms?

I’d say Princeton, Yale, Harvard. Subjectively speaking.

For freshmen Yale’s Old Campus has much better rooms than Harvard Yard. After that, it’s hard to generalize. The Harvard houses are much more different from one another than Yale’s residential colleges, other than Morse and Stiles. Princeton – I haven’t seen a first-year room there in a long time, but they used to be just awful.

Princeton rooms depend a lot on which residential college you’re in. My freshman year I was in a suite with 2 doubles, 3 singles, and a common room, and it was very similar to the Yale suite D was in her freshman year. That first double at Princeton was tiny, but the following year my roommate and I had an enormous (non-suite) double. From what I’ve seen (and my experience at H is limited to a freshman year visit to a high school classmate of mine) housing at all three schools varies widely, from the truly cramped to the luxurious.

I was joking. See my 1st and 2nd responses.

It’s probably the snob in me but really? We’re talking about some of the most difficult schools to get into in the world and the question is which has better rooms? Really?

Once I did a college fair where I was at a table in a gymnasium full of other colleges’ tables. I was telling a group of students/parents some info about Yale and from the back, a young lady said: “Does Yale have its own TV studios? I’m really interested in television”. I must admit that was a question I never prepped for: I said:“I really don’t know. Ummm… Why don’t you look over the brochure?”

She took a flyer and walked to the next table. I kinda doubt she applied to Yale…

Here’s the answer on the TV studio:

i dont much care for music and art. to be honest, i could careless about great melodies. rap music is the only thing i love. classic is garbage. so does Yale offer anything else? like fun stuff youd go with your old high school friends with. so does Yale offer it, or Harvaard, Yale, and Princeton for that matter?

I really hope you’re being sarcastic, because that’s just downright rude. Just because you don’t appreciate classical music doesn’t make it “garbage.” And to my understanding, Yale has a huge range of musical interests from classical to modern. It might do you some good to get some exposure to the former range…

harvardlite: make sure you display your open mindedness to all your interviewers. I’m sure they would love to hear about it. Ask them about housing your folks in the dorm rooms too.

You might want to consider rapping at your interviews instead of talking; that might really make you stand out.

I think harvardlite represents a cultural URM (and by that, I mean complete lack of it) in the Ivy League and we should encourage and aid him in his efforts to be admitted to Harvard. You’re making me laugh every day, hlite. Thanks.
