I just wrote my main Common App essay; it only took about an hour, which bodes well. Now onto the Yale supplement essays, the Common App EC short answer, and the University of Illinois prompts…

so… effing nervous!

are your guys’ yale supplement very… Yale-detailed? As in, do you specifically reference Yale a lot or do you just write it as another generic common app type essay?

it’s true you should be confident, but you also need to be realistic. truly, no one applying to yale has a high chance of getting in because it’s soo competitive. the only thing an applicant can really do is show the best of themself to admissions and hope they like it enough to admit them.

@ arwenevenstar - I talked about my passions for food and chemistry and how I want to study biochem and be a part of the Yale farm, so I did talk about Yale, but not in a major way.

@arwenevenstar mine is essentially another common application essay… but i’m still working on it, haha. due in 12 hours! (and its halloween!!)

I know!! no trick or treating for me… mine is also very common-app ish. I want to include some more references to Yale to show that i would really enjoy it there… but that’s hard to do since I haven’t been to Yale and all I have is their website. :

anyways, thxs pkm and kidfromvirginia :)

They do have a Why Yale short answer anyways. The 500 word essay asks nothing about Yale, so I don’t see why it would be necessary.

^true, but “the space provided” is not a lot of space :)

I didn’t include any reference to Yale on my supplement essay.

It was pretty much another commonapp essay, except I was really strict with the 500 words limit on this one

phew, ok this is good to know. … hmmm i hope I’m not the only one still working on my app? talk about last minute…

^ lol I’m still here trying to finish my commonapp and supplement essays. Hoping to get them done and peer reviewed by tonight.

wow, who are you planning on getting it peer reviewed by?! I definitely wouldn’t have anyone to ask right now… I’m stuck on short answers 3 and 4…

I have one friend who’s a really good writer, then another friend, and then my cousin. I just want feedback from them though, not for them to tear it apart.

ahhh jealous. I’m pretty sure none of my friend’s want to edit my essay on halloween and im not so sure how much id what them to edit my essays in the first place :)

I applied to Yale yesterday, and honestly? WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN. there’s no harm in not trying, right? As a white, middle class, female from Connecticut all odds are against me, but i don’t want to just say, “Oh, i won’t get in.” If i can’t get in, i want Yale to tell me that.

Actually shouldn’t your being from CT help you rather than hurt you? I thought even tho these schools prefer diversity they still privilege in-state applicants…

Why would they? It’s a private university, and CT is an over-represented state.

I finally finished my Yale essay! It is exactly 500 words… no more no less. What a feat, I must say. (-:

I fear you probably don’t garner extra points for perfectly matching the word count…
