Yale SCEA Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

How do we know when we get a message for an interview? does the person or the university contact us?

@ragsmyselfandI The interviewer will contact you

@ragsmyselfandI An interviewer will contact you if there are enough available. Contacting admissions won’t alter this. Sit back and wait. Check your spam filters, just in case.

@nyawaj I am!!

@iceca35 are you an international, mate?

@nyawaj @iceca35 I’m an international, what about you?

@nyawaj @HenryFeddersen yeah I’m an international too

Yale’s acceptance rate is set to increase.

Hey guys. So I just realized that I didn’t include any debate awards I’ve won on my application (I applied SCEA). None of them are huge national awards or anything but I’ve won some at state and regional tournaments and conventions. Do you think this is worth updating my application (using the form on the portal) over? Thanks!

@CultureVulture That’s an unfounded conclusion. I argue that the article’s premise is faulty and the article title is misleading. There’s no way to know if the admit rate increases or decreases until the first week of January when all apps have come in. The YDN article writer is not a psychic. Poor work by YDN.

Guys, how many hours of activities did you list per week? Please someone help, I’m stressing!

@HenryFeddersen I put 27 hours a week.

I am!

How many hours of activities did other people list?

@CultureVulture I applied as a global affairs major as well! Well, a dual global affairs/cog sci major :slight_smile:

@HenryFeddersen 57 hours in total, which in retrospect sounds like a lot. A lot of my activities have different time commitments at different times in the years though, so I just tried to average it together and this is what I ended up with. Hopefully it doesn’t come across that I spread myself thin or worst-case-scenario lie! Like track for example is 12 hours a week, but that’s only in-season, and I put down work for 15 hours though I work less during the school year and more during summer and that’s true also for this publication type thing I write for which I listed as 7 hours a week though in summer I devote much more time to it and in the school year it’s closer to 3 hours max. Ahhh, does anyone think I should be worried about this? I hadn’t even realized it was excessive until after I hut submit!

57 hours a week? That’s crazy!!! But that means you did 8 hours of activities a day, that’s not physically possible with school @berkdork

i did the same. i tried to average things out. i do activities all year but sometimes they take 20 hours a week and sometimes I only spend one hour on it a week. I think they understand that, for activities you do all year, some weeks will be heavier than others.

do u think theyll think i lied though???

@berkdork That is a lot of hours, maybe cut it down a little for any other apps. But I think you should be fine here. Its not like you put more hours than there are in a week. Most activities such as sports underlap different seasons and some clubs take more effort in the beginning of the year than the end, so I don’t think its that big of a deal.

Parent here: when you enter the # of hours/week, don’t you also enter the # of weeks/year?
