Hey guys, I submitted a STEM supplement with abstracts via SlideRoom three weeks ago. The problem is that my research mentor is on a business trip for a while now, and he still hasn’t submitted a recommendation. I am really worried that the admission committee will not receive the recommendation on time and think that my mentor was not willing to submit it. Any thought on what I should do?
@canadant I’m in the rural southeast too and mine was online, but he said he lived near me. According to him Yale is moving toward doing all interviews online but it doesn’t seem that way reading this thread.
@college321 I would contact Yale to let them know and also try and get in touch with your mentor to see if a) he can somehow submit or b) if he truly can’t, to have him contact the school and vouch that it’s on the way
@margaret1332 I hope your interview went well! My application might not have been strong enough…who knows.
@canadant the strength of your application has nothing to do with whether or not you’re offered an interview. I got an invitation for an interview two days after I submitted my application. I could be wrong, but that seems to be the census here on cc.
My daughter had her Yale interview last night. She took an Uber to downtown Houston to the interviewer’s office. She was nervous beforehand, but thought it went really well. The guy was very nice and told her two people he interviewed from her school last year were admitted. She’s hoping the streak continues.
Yale’s portal states: “Mid-Year Reports are not due until first trimester or first semester grades are available from your school.”
Our school issues a quarterly report card but the grades are just placeholders that are converted to semester grades after Jan midterm exams. Am I correct in thinking that Yale does not want to see the first quarter report card?
@CT1417 Yes, you are correct.
@CT1417 - School did call for first quarter grades and those were sent when published. Recruited athlete though so the process could be different.
As I understand it, if the midterm or first quarter grades are sent, Yale will look at them. But they will not request them, at least under normal circumstances.
Thank you @DreamforIvy, @Flinnt12 and @SkipWoosnam. Interesting array of responses.
1st Q grades are excellent but do not represent a change from the submitted transcript. I just wanted to make sure the AOs would not be annoyed if my son submitted the 1st Q grades. Having said that, he cannot figure out how to do so as the portal does not list the option of submitting grades. I realize there is an ‘other’ box, so perhaps he can upload that way.
Thanks!
I’m from New York! Anyone else?
@rebecca12345 I’m also from New York. The competition terrifies me.
1 month until decisions, hang in there guys!
Also would any of you be willing to start a GroupMe with me! PM me if interested.
New Yorker here as well and yep I’m scared
Wait, why does it matter what state you’re from?
By the way, check out this article http://yaledailynews.com/blog/2016/11/15/early-applications-increase-by-9-percent/
About 5k SCEA applications this round
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ my reaction at first glance.
Ty so much for posting! I was waiting for an article like that to come out. But golly thinking of myself as one of five thousand applicants to Yale is pretty daunting. But seriously an increase of 462 applicants is too much. I was expecting 100 for the new residential colleges…
@hhjjlala My pleasure
How are you guys honestly feeling? I’m really scared and every time I read through these threads and old threads I get discouraged because I feel like I’m nothing special. Does anyone have that feeling too?
