@Eloquence23, many interviews are informal. She was taking the pressure off.
11 days…
@bssurly on the bright side, the sun is still up.
Ugh I have to wait until the 16th. It’s going to kill me inside. I have a ton of finals the 16th and don’t want to bomb any of them because I was rejected. But four other kids from my grade applied early, so I know I’ll start freaking out about my own chances if I hear any of them were accepted.
@yalehopeful017 5 applicants from 1 school! That sounds crazy.
I have my AP bio final on the 16th and I know I won’t get any studying done if I get accepted or rejected, but I don’t have the self-control to not check haha. I only have school until 1 on the 15th (we do half-days during exams) so I’ll have four very stressful hours before decisions come out that I can hopefully use to study at least.
It’s so crazy and scary. There’s probably even more…that’s just all I know of currently. I guess it’s technically six because we already have a person going for athletics and he’s “in the applicant pool” with us. Last year, only two kids applied early and one was accepted…I just ended up getting really unlucky.
All of us are applying for different majors as well…English, History, Political Science, and Engineering. And we’re all valedictorians (my school gives it to multiple kids b/c it’s if you have a 4.65+) and we’re all either National Merit or commended…and we’re coming from a public school that usually doesn’t have this smart of kids…please Yale have mercy omg
Oh whoops I forgot the fifth person is applying for Psych
Sorry if this was already answered, but what time will decisions come out?

I agree with your assessment and if your talking on this board and applying, you definitely have a conflict of interest. I think the premise of college confidential touts the cut-copy achievements across the board, namely result threads where the format is inadvertently emphasizing the standardization and shallowness of some of our peers. At premier institutions, I think fit and a demonstrated thirst for academic challenge speaks volumes as well as creating the potential for an acceptance letter.
13 kids from my daughter’s class of 140 applied to Yale last year and 2 were accepted. Most applied SCEA
We have 30 applying in total. If I get deferred, I’m going to probably get knocked out by someone who is applying RD.
Two out of thirteen is a great number. We only had two kids get in last year out of thirty, and one was an athletic recruit. But last year’s class was 10x times less qualified. My grade is an anomaly filled with tons of kids who transferred from out of district.
Having 30 kids apply to Yale from one school seems so crazy to me - it’s a good year at my school if we have four or five kids applying to Ivies or Ivy-level schools (i.e. Duke and Vanderbilt). And we’re not a small school either, we have about 450 per class.
Yeah, we have 700 in my grade but my school (and especially my grade) is super competitive. For instance, despite being an underfunded public school, we have over 20 National Merit semifinalists in CA…which is one of the states with the highest cutoffs. We have 70+ applying to Stanford, and at least 25-30 for each Ivy League school. And since the top schools have quotas, we won’t have a lot of kids get in. It’s really scary for me knowing that I’d probably be accepted into a top school if I was in any neighboring high school but might not because of how competitive my grade is. Getting in early would mean Yale doesn’t see the rest of my grade, so that would help so so much. I don’t know how I’ll fare against the rest of my grade in the regular round…
@yalehopeful017 I’m confused, do people compete against the people in their school or against the entire applicant pool? What if someone is the only applicant from their school but is the same as someone who is against a lot of people from another school?
It’s a combination of both. They won’t take too many kids from the same school so in my case, that drastically lowers my chances. Then, you’re also compared to the rest of the applicant pool.
