Yale SCEA legacy v. Cornell ED

<p>Hi, I am just finishing my junior year and I have been contemplating college admissions for a long time. I have yet to decide definitively on where I would like to apply ED/EA. I have legacy status at Yale through my grandfather (does the fact that it is a grandparent demean my legacy status?) and I understand that that can roughly double your chances under SCEA at Yale, which would bring the acceptance rate up to around 26%ish. Cornell's acceptance rate for ED is 31%. I don't feel lijke posting stats but I am a good student at a very competitive private school, whose personal qualities, very unique application, and creative writing, could push me into the realm of possibility for an Ivy League school. Does anyone have insight on whether Yale SCEA or Cornell ED would be better for me?</p>

<p>Additional info: Would it help my chances at Cornell that my school has sent one kid there every year for the last three years (recruited rowers, I'm a novice rower and will not be good enough for recruitment)? These students have been successful and carried high marks at Cornell. I don't believe a student from my school has been accepted to Yale for a long time. My geometry teacher went to Yale and I will most likely ask him for a rec.</p>

<p>Legacy is not as big a boost as it appears from the numbers; yes a far higher percentage of people with Yale legacy get accepted to Yale, but that is not due to the legacy. In fact, the rate of people with HARVARD or PRINCETON legacy being accepted to Yale is about the same as people with Yale legacy (and with Yale legacy at H and P). </p>

<p>The fact that not many/some students have gone somewhere will not make a difference imo.</p>

<p>I wouldn’t do ED unless you are 100% sure that if accepted you really WANT to attend.</p>
