Ok, Yale SCEA has me baffled on the question of what other schools I can apply to. Here it is;

Early Action FAQ | Application to Yale College | Freshmen | Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Answer: A. If you are an applicant to Yale under the Single Choice Early Action program, you may not apply to any early admissions program that notifies candidates in December, whether or not that program is binding. However, you may apply to another college's early notification program under certain conditions. First, you may apply to a public university's "rolling" admission program if the program is non-binding (meaning that you have until May 1 to respond). Second, you may apply to a college with an early deadline for scholarship awards, but only if the notification of admission occurs after January 1. Finally, you may apply to another college's "Round 2 Early Decision" program, but only if notification is after January 1. If you are admitted through another college's "Round 2 Early Decision" program, you must withdraw your application from Yale.

Questions that Arise:

Can you apply to a university that notifies you before December, such as a rolling decision school that notifies you after you submit Yale SCEA but before December?

However, though the first question seems to be allowable under the wording, the fact that they point out specifically you can apply to public rolling decision programs makes one wonder if its limited to only publics with rolling that notify in or before december, or if they are just saying that if the public notifies you in December and is rolling you can still apply to it.

Why does it single out that you can apply to a college in/before december for scholarship deadlines? That implies that this is an exception, and that you can't apply before hearing your decision otherwise.

Lastly, adding to the confusion, a admission representatives (not officer though I believe, alumni?) said you can't apply to any other schools with Yale SCEA until the decision.

Can anyone help me address these questions? In my case, I'm just wondering if I can apply to some rolling decision schools (Rutgers, Drexel, ..) as safeties to not be in the jitters once I get rejected from Yale SCEA.

Thanks!
