Exactly, mmmarimba. That is my experience, too. I’ve called a couple of times, but no direct answer, so I’ll guess it will be what it’s going to be… Vamos a ver.
@Clarinetdad, my son was very impressed by Rice and he had a strong audition, they are certainly on the short list if he gets a decent offer. He was at CIM this weekend and loves the professor, he’s played a couple times for him previously. Only Yale audition is left at this point. He has gotten stronger and played better at each audition.
To quote an awesome Tom Petty song “the waiting is the hardest part” at least for me.
Anyone else or S/D audition this year, and if so, have you heard anything back yet?
Received an email at 4:45 pm today that he’s been wait listed at Yale…anyone have experience or knowledge with this situation (Masters Music Performance, Trombone)? I’m not sure if we should be happy or consider it a low probability…
Congrats, much better than a rejection! It would be appropriate in my opinion and string experience to have your S contact the instructor expressing great interest in coming (if this is indeed true!). (My experience is strings, but I don’t think there is a big difference in this situation even though he is a brass player.) He can also contact the Admissions Dept and ask about the wait-list, is it ranked, what has their experience been in past years with the wait-list, etc. Again, especially if this is the 1st choice, have S express great interest and indicate that this is the 1st choice. Good luck - we had this situation once in our family and it worked out better than I ever could have anticipated.
Thanks for the great advice!
Accepted at CIM today
Was waitlisted for Yale (violin)… I was told that there were 20 students who had a better score, and 8 others with my score. I was wondering whether that means they had close to 20 openings, or whether they over-accepted?
Sounds about right. It’s a grad-only program with most students there for only 2-3 years, so there is a big turnaround in studios each year.
My S accepted a fantastic offer from another school, free ride and a paid TA for two years that he simply could not turn down. All due respect to Yale and if they come through at the 11th hour with a miracle offer from the wait list he would have to consider it, but it just wan’t right to string along this other program who clearly went above and beyond and wanted him there. He only auditioend at programs he had on his short list (though I wish he included 2-3 more), so he’s moved on in his mind.
4 days and counting from national offer acceptance day - anyone still in the process? Anyone offered by Yale from the wait list?
I am also in the waitlist. Waiting for the results!
Didn’t happen for my S in the end - but I have to give credit to Yale for the personal phone calls and follow ups, other than where he ended up Yale was the most professional by far. I mean, not many professors will take the time to call you personally and let you know where you stand. FYI, my S accepted a full ride plus TA for his Masters with University of Georgia.
Graduation just happened on Monday. Two years went by so fast. So sorry to see it end. A wonderful experience. And I sure did a lot of gaping at the buildings. May everyone have as terrific experience in grad school as my son did.
Could you(applicants on waitlist) please tell me the result? Were you admitted? What major and when you get the result…?
